This evening we have some incredibly sad and tragic news to report. Grant Imahara, who is best known as a Mythbusters host and an Industrial Light & Magic crew member, has died at age 49 following a brain aneurysm.

Imahara was a gifted electrical engineer and roboticist who gained worldwide fame for his role in the reality TV series Mythbusters which he co-hosted for over a decade. He was also one of the hosts of the Netflix series White Rabbit Project and also stepped into the shoes of Hikaru Sulu in the fan made series Star Trek Continues. But prior to Mythbusters Imahara was part of Industrial Light & Magic for nine years and worked as a modeler and an animatronics technician on the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy. He controlled R2-D2's movements through all three films and worked on much the Trilogy's impressive practical effects. He also made a cameo appearance in the mockumentary R2-D2: Beneath the Dome and was inducted into the 501st Legion in 2011.

Below is a collection of photos showing Grant Imahara working behind the scenes of the Prequel Trilogy:

All of us at the SWU want to send our most sincere thoughts and condolences to the friends and family of Grant Imahara during this difficult. He has most definitely left an indelible mark on the Star Wars saga and pop culture as a whole. He will be greatly missed.
