'ForceFest' Virtual Star Wars Convention Happening In August

By: Benjamin Hart

Under normal circumstances we would be anticipating the next Star Wars Celebration in a little over a month... But 2020 has been anything but normal. With a global pandemic upon us most major events have been postponed or canceled, including this year's Celebration which was slated to be held in Anaheim, California in August. With that convention postponed until 2022 it looks we'll have to wait a long time before we can get together to "celebrate" Star Wars together... or perhaps not!

Enter ForceFest 2020, a virtual Star Wars fan event that will be taking place online August 28-30, the same weekend that Star Wars Celebration Anaheim would have previously occupied. ForceFest is being organized by a collection of prominent individuals and organizations from Star Wars fan community, including Skywalking Through Neverland, Tatooine Sons, Chatter Squadron, Around The Galaxy, Star Wars Autograph News, and (yours truly) The Star Wars Underworld.

ForceFest 2020 promises to bring together a diverse group of Star Wars fans from around the globe to celebrate the saga in a family friendly environment. The event will include six themed virtual "stages" that will be broadcast on the streaming platform GetVokl, and each live stream will be working to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The stages will be specially focused on Content Creators, Interviews and Discussions, Live Action, and Comics/Animation/Books, along with a Virtual Meetup “Cantina Lounge,” and a Miscellaneous stage. Those who would like to host a ForceFest panel of their own can submit a proposal by clicking here.

“2020 hasn’t been the uplifting year we all hoped it would be," Says Richard Woloski, co-host of the Skywalking Through Neverland Podcast. "So this is a chance to turn things around. We are doing this to celebrate fandom and the Star Wars saga. May the ForceFest be with us all.” Richard and his wife & Skywalking co-host Sarah have been two of the chief organizers behind ForceFest 2020. “Star Wars Celebration has always been a huge part of Star Wars fandom,” Sarah Woloski adds. “Fans gather from all over the world to celebrate the Star Wars saga and meet up with new and old friends. We knew we could use technology to mimic that feel virtually.”

Pete Fletzer, who hosts the Around The Galaxy Podcast, has also been devoting a great amount of time and effort into making this incredible event a reality. “I’ve only been back and heavily involved in the Star Wars community as a podcaster for about a year," Says Fletzer. "But it’s been so welcoming and a wonderful time to be a fan.”
