With Star Wars: The Clone Wars finally complete and no other Star Wars animated productions on the horizon, fans have been left to speculate about what the future of animated Star Wars television will be. Thankfully our friends Noah Outlaw and Corey Van Dyke from Kessel Run Transmissions have been providing us with some fascinating scoops on what might be coming next for Lucasfilm Animation.
A few months back they reported that Dave Filoni and crew have been busy developing a Star Wars Rebels follow-up series that could debut later this year. While that report has yet to be confirmed by Lucasfilm, earlier this week Corey and Noah revealed another scoop, this time focusing on a proposed spin-off series for The Clone Wars.
Yesterday Noah Outlaw revealed on Twitter that they've been hearing, via their sources, that a brand new series is in development and will feature the members of The Bad Batch as lead characters. He explains that this spin-off series will be set after the events of "The Siege Of Mandalore", the series finale of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and is being developed by many former Clone Wars crew members, which may or may not include Dave Filoni himself. The series is expected to be released in 2021 and could feature Captain Rex and Ahsoka Tano in limited roles. You can read all of Noah's tweet below:
We can 100% say that the next Star Wars animated series features The Bad Batch as the main leads. It’ll take place after “The Siege of Mandalore” and Hunter, Crosshair, Tech, Wrecker, and Echo will all be back. pic.twitter.com/0GLRZA51HI— Noah Outlaw (@OutlawNoah) June 18, 2020
The Bad Batch arc in S7 was a back door pilot for this new series as a way to get the audience familiar with these characters. Rex and Ahsoka willl also appear in a limited capacity. Production is far along and you can expect it in 2021.— Noah Outlaw (@OutlawNoah) June 18, 2020
We don’t know if Dave Filoni is involved with the series, but a lot of people that worked on TCW will be on this show. Hopefully we get an announcement this summer as I’d imagine this was going to be announced at Celebration.— Noah Outlaw (@OutlawNoah) June 18, 2020
We have heard from several different reliable sources on this. Corey and I are big TCW fans and are just as hyped as everyone else. This is something we’d never make up or guess at, we wouldn’t do that for anything that we put out.— Noah Outlaw (@OutlawNoah) June 18, 2020
Despite the fact that we consider Corey and Noah to be very reliable sources, this report should be considered "rumor" until it's officially confirmed by Lucasfilm.
