A fan favourite actor from the prequel trilogy is set to make his return to the galaxy far, far away in season two of The Mandalorian. A new story from The Hollywood Reporter claims that Temuera Morrison, who played Jango Fett and the army of his clones in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, will make an appearance in the second season of The Mandalorian. Morrison will reportedly be playing Boba Fett (Jango's son and clone) in the series, a part which is said to be, "just a small role."
Boba Fett's appearance on the series was teased in the fifth episode of season one, titled "The Gunslinger", when an unidentified figure was seen approaching the corpse of Fennec Shan (Ming-Na Wen) who had had a run in with Din Djarrin (aka The Mandalorian) earlier in the episode. Although it was unclear who it was in that final scene of the episode, the sound effect used for the mysterious figures footsteps was identical to that used for Boba Fett in The Empire Strikes Back.
The casting of Morrison as Boba Fett is the second major reveal of a fan-favourite character who will be appearing in the show's second season, following the news that Rosario Dawson will be playing Ahsoka Tano in the new season.
In addition to his roles in the prequel trilogy, Morrison has been the voice of Boba Fett in all releases of the The Empire Strikes since the 2004 DVD edition.
Morrison's role in The Mandalorian, need not be limited to just Boba Fett. Jango served as the template for the clone army in the prequel trilogy, which led to thousands of characters having his face in stories set in that era (including the recently wrapped up The Clone Wars animated series). While most of the clone army is likely dead at this point in the timeline, so have hoped that Ahsoka's appearance could bring an appearance by her clone companion Captain Rex as well.
The actor did say in a 2017 interview that he'd like to play an older Captain Rex. However, there's no indication from THR or any other sources that this could happen at this time, but if Morrison is already involved in the series then it likely wouldn't be too difficult to get him to play Rex (or another clone) alongside Boba Fett. But that's just speculation at this point.
Season two of The Mandalorian is slated to debut on Disney+ in October. The series stars Pedro Pascal as Din, Gina Carrano as Cara Dune, and Carl Weathers as Greef Carga. It's written and executive produced by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.
