Report: Katee Sackhoff To Play Live Action Bo-Katan In Season Two Of 'The Mandalorian'

Just when you thought the casting reports for season two of The Mandalorian couldn't get any bigger, we've now learned of another fan favourite from Star Wars animation who will be making the jump to live action.  /Film is reporting that Katee Sackhoff will be reprising her role as Bo-Katan, who she voiced on the animated series' Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels in the upcoming season.  Her scenes were reportedly shot in February, with post-production on the season now ongoing.  Neither Lucasfilm nor Saskhoff's representatives have commented on this story.

Sackhoff is best known for her role as Starbuck on the 2004 reboot of Battlestar Galactica.  She made her Star Wars debut in the fourth season of The Clone Wars, in the episode A Friend in Need, as Bo-Katan.  She went on to appear in eight more episodes of the series, including five in the recently wrapped seventh season, and the two-part premiere of season four of Rebels, "Heroes of Mandalore."

This also marks the third significant character from else where in the saga who's involvement in season two of The Mandalorian has been reported.  First it was the news that Ahsoka Tano would appear, reportedly played by Rosario Dawson, and then last week we learned that Temuera Morrison would be playing Boba Fett in the new season.  While Bo-Katan may not be as well known as Ahsoka or Boba, she still has major ties to the history of Mandalore which is being explored in the show.

Bo-Katan's appearance in the show could connect the story of Din Djarrin, the Mandalorian we followed throughout season one, to much of the previously established history of Mandalore from The Clone Wars and Rebels.  She was the last known wielder of the darksaber prior to Moff Gideon, who used the saber to cut his way out of his crashed TIE Fighter in the season one finale, which suggests there is some unpleasant history between the two of them.

She also has a history with Ahsoka, as seen in the last season of The Clone Wars, so it's possible that we may see the first live action meeting between characters introduced in Star Wars animation later this year.  All this talk of Ahsoka and Bo-Katan being involved also surely has some fans hoping that Sabine Wren, who gave the darksaber to Bo-Katan on Rebels and was last seen departing with Ahsoka to go find her friend Ezra Bridger, might also pop up.  There's even some whispers which suggest as much.

The second season of The Mandalorian is set to debut on Disney+ in October, and Disney CEO Bob Chapek said recently that the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic will not affect the release date of the series.  The series stars Pedro Pascal as Din, Gina Carrano as Cara Dune, and Carl Weathers as Greef Carga.  It's written and executive produced by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.  A documentary series about season one of The Mandalorian, called Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian is currently being released weekly on Disney+
