One of the new characters we'll be meeting in Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker is Jannah, played by newcomer Naomi Ackie. Little is known about Jannah at the moment, we've only seen her in one still image, released at Star Wars Celebration back in April, and one shot in the special preview released at D23 Expo in August. That said, Ackie has been a big part of the film's promotion, appearing at both Celebration and D23, as well as on the Triple Force Friday live stream (where she saw the first Jannah action figure for the first time).
Most recently, Ackie was interviewed by Total Film about The Rise Of Skywalker. In the interview, Ackie dropped a small tidbit about how we meet Jannah in the film. She said,
"Jannah is a warrior, and she comes into contact with the rest of the
group at a point where they need some help. She is part of
the Resistance, and she’s spent a long time acquiring skills that might
be helpful when it comes to the big conclusion of the film. So she
shows up at the right time."
She also spoke about some of the training she underwent to prepare for the film, specifically her scenes riding "orbaks" (a new, horse like creature we first saw in the Vanity Fair preview of the film back in May). Ackie revealed she spent three days a week for seven months learning to ride horses, telling Total Film, "By the end of it, I could canter without any hands. I could play catch
with balls while on a horse… It’s the best part of the job – you get
paid to learn!"
As for when we might get to see more from Jannah, the rumor currently is that we'll be seeing the new trailer for The Rise Of Skywalker on October 21st during Monday Night Football on ESPN.
