Ewan McGregor Talks About Returning As Obi-Wan With Jimmy Kimmel

By: Dominic Jones

Ever since it was announced that Lucasfilm would be making new Star Wars projects fans have been asking for a new Obi-Wan Kenobi story of some kind, starring Ewan McGregor. In August of this year, they finally got their wish.  McGregor, who played Obi-Wan in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, joined Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy at D23 Expo to announce a new Kenobi live action series, coming to Disney+.

Now, with McGregor out promoting his new film Doctor Sleep, he's been getting a lot of questions about the series, which begins filming next year.  The Scottish actor appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live yesterday, sporting what he called a "practice Obi-Wan" beard, and spoke extensively about what it was like to keep the secret, as well as his "Shatner moment" when it was finally announced.  Check it out below,

The idea of Ewan McGregor and Ahmed Best sitting around, reading William Shatner's book on the set of The Phantom Menace is truly a delightful one.  You can relive McGregor's "Shatner Moment" below,

The untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi series, starring Ewan McGregor, begins filming next year and takes place approximately eight years after Revenge of the Sith.  The series is written by Hossein Amini (Drive, The Alienist) and directed by Deborah Chow (The Mandalorian, Better Call Saul).  Episodes will be released on Disney+, no premiere date has been set.
