Rumor: Ewan McGregor To Direct Episodes Of An Obi-Wan Kenobi Live Action Series

By: Dominic Jones

Earlier today, it was reported that Ewan McGregor had finally signed a deal to return as Obi-Wan Kenobi for a new project, which is believed to be a live action series from Disney+.  Now, a new report from Fantha Tracks claims that McGregor will be doing more than just acting in the series.  The report states that McGregor will direct multiple episodes of an eight episode season.  No word yet on release date for the series.

McGregor made his directorial debut in 2016 with the film American Pastoral, which he also starred in.

An Obi-Wan Kenobi movie or series, starring McGregor, is something that has been on many fans wish lists ever since the announcement that new Star Wars movies were coming back in 2012.  Despite several false-starts, it appears that we may finally be seeing the long awaited project coming to fruition.  It was initially reported that a Kenobi film was in development from The Crown director Stephen Daldry.  Following the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story, and the subsequent rethinking of the Star Wars release schedule, it appears that the film has been reworked into a live action series.

Given the proximity of these rumors to Disney's D23 Expo, which takes place August 23rd-25th in Anaheim, California, some are speculating that Lucasfilm could be looking to make a major splash at the convention by announcing McGregor's return.  This would be in addition to the previews of The Mandalorian and The Rise Of Skywalker that are already slated to take place during the convention.

As always, this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.
