Kathleen Kennedy Introduces The New Droid D-0 From 'The Rise Of Skywalker' To 'Good Morning America'

By: Dominic Jones

Following the reveal of the new teaser for Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker at D23 Expo this weekend, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy was interviewed by Good Morning America. Though she was the only human subject of the interview, Kennedy wasn't alone.  She was joined by the droids BB-8 and D-0, who will make his debut on screen in The Rise Of Skywalker this December.

Kennedy described D-0 to GMA, saying he was, "a rescue" and that "BB found D-0, helped put him back together and now their best friends."  You can see the interview below,

D-0 was first introduced to fans on stage at Star Wars Celebration, and later on screen in the teaser trailer, back in April.  He was also featured on stage this weekend during the Star Wars portion of the Disney Studios preview panel.

Kennedy's comments about D-0 being "a rescue" who was helped by BB-8 are very intriguing.  We don't yet know what role D-0 plays in the film, but it seems we may have just learned (albeit in vague terms) just how he enters the film.  The two droids being "best friends" also makes sense given that the only time we've seen them in trailers or previews they are together and making a very similar head tilt.

Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.  The film is directed by JJ Abrams, with a script by Abrams and Chris Terio, and stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Kelly Marie Tran, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, Keri Russell, Richard E. Grant, Naomi Ackie, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie Fisher.
