Behind The Scenes Look At The Lucas Museum Of Narrative Art Coming To SDCC

By: Benjamin Hart

It's been a while since we've heard any news about the Lucas Museum Of Narrative Art, but we now have an exciting update that should certainly be of interest to attendees of San Diego Comic Con.

The Lucas Museum Of Narrative Art is a project that has been in development for many years, and just recently found its home in Los Angeles' Exposition Park. Headed by "The Maker" himself, George Lucas, the museum is slated to feature items from Lucas' personal art collection. Construction began on the museum last year, and while its completion isn't expected until 2021, the curators are ready to reveal some of the building's contents. has revealed that next week's San Diego Comic Con will be hosting a panel dedicated to the Lucas Museum. Members of the founding curatorial team, including Erin M. Curtis, Anastasia James, and Ryan Linkof will host the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art: Behind the Scenes panel. The panel will provide sneak peeks at the massive and diverse collection that will be featured in the museum. In a statement, the Lucas Museum team had this to say about the panel:

“The Comic-Con audience has shown incredible dedication not only to George Lucas and his films, but to narrative art more broadly. We will have much to offer for everyone at the Lucas Museum and we are excited that the Comic-Con audience will be among the first to hear about our museum and collection... We will look at a wide array of works from ancient Roman mosaics to Norman Rockwell to Star Wars concept artist Ralph McQuarrie, and discuss how these diverse works and artists will come together in our galleries to offer fresh insight into narrative art and its significance throughout history.”

As they also point out, Star Wars itself was first introduced to audiences at San Diego Comic Con back in 1976. This year SDCC will be celebrating its 50th year, and this panel seems to poetic bring things full circle. The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art: Behind the Scenes panel is scheduled for Thursday, July 18th, 2019 at 10:00 AM in Room 5AB during San Diego Comic Con!
