Easily one of the most shocking and talked about element of Star Wars: The Last Jedi was Luke Skywalker himself. In that film we saw Luke at his lowest, broken and self exiled, as well as at his highest, saving the Resistance and returning hope to the galaxy. Luke's sacrifice at the end of The Last Jedi all but confirmed that he would be making one last appearance from beyond the grave in Episode IX. Now the actor behind Luke, Mark Hamill, has given us something more concrete to go on in regards to his appearance in the next film.
While promoting his most recent film Child's Play, Mark Hamill spoke with the Associated Press briefly about his return as Luke Skywalker in The Rise Of Skywalker. He confirms that Episode IX will be his last Star Wars film, and he will indeed be appearing in the form a blue Force Ghost in the film:
AP: Is this really going to be your last Star Wars appearance?
MH: I sure hope so. (laughs)
AP: Why?
MH: Well, because…I had closure in the last one. The fact that I’m involved in any capacity is only because of that peculiar aspect of the Star Wars mythology where if you’re a Jedi, you get to come back and make a curtain call as a Force ghost.
Ever since Vanity Fair revealed that amazing photo of Luke from The Rise Of Skywalker(top) speculation has run rampant concerning the deceased Jedi Master's appearance in the film. Thankfully this interview confirms we'll be seeing Skywalker as a Force Ghost. It is also expected, but bittersweet to learn that Hamill will be done with Star Wars after Episode IX. The Rise Of Skywalker is certainly living up to its tagline as the "end of the Skywalker saga."
