'Galaxy's Edge' Reservations All Claimed Within The First Two Hours

By: Dominic Jones

With Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, the upcoming theme park expansion, opening at Disneyland in California on May 31st, Disney began offering guests the chance to reserve their spot at the theme this morning and, as expected, they didn't last long.  All the reservations for four hour visits to Galaxy's Edge between May 31st and June 23rd were claimed in under two hours.  So if you were hoping to go to the park in the first three weeks, you are out of luck.

Reservations opened at 1pm ET today on the Disney Parks website, were gone before 3pm.  No word on how Disney will be handling Galaxy's Edge after June 23rd, whether the reservation will continue or if anybody with a park ticket can go at any time, but given the enthusiasm it's safe to say anyone hoping to go when it's at less than capacity will be waiting for a very long time.

Galaxy's Edge reportedly cost Disney over $1 Billion to build, and takes place entirely "in-universe" on the planet Baatu's Black Spike Outpost.  The land will feature two rides (though only one, the Millennium Falcon ride, will be open at launch), as well as unique food options and merchandise.  The staff (or "cast members") will also be "in-universe", having received improv training to ensure they can carry on various conversations about the Star Wars galaxy with guests as if they actually lived there.

A second Galaxy's Edge expansion, with the same rides, food options, and merchandise will open at the end of August at Disney World in Florida.  A reservation will not be needed when it opens in Florida, however don't expect the crowds to be any less.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is slated to open first at Disneyland in Anaheim, California on May 31st, and then at Disney World in Orlando, Florida on August 29th.  The park was first announced back at D23 in August 2015, and construction began in April 2016.  Now, almost four years later, it's finally (almost) time for Star Wars fans to live out their dreams and step into the galaxy far, far away (or, at least, come as close as possible here on Earth).
