Report: First Look At The TIE Echelon In 'Galaxy's Edge'

By: Benjamin Hart

Earlier this week a vast amount of information was revealed about Galaxy's Edge, the Star Wars themed land coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World later this year. Among the announcements were details about the various attractions inside the area, which is currently under construction.

In addition to the exciting official announcements we have also been treated to an intriguing photo that showed on Reddit, via the R/StarWarsLeaks subreddit. The image shows a TIE Echelon that is said to have been built inside Galaxy's Edge. Separate areas of Galaxy's Edge are devoted to the Resistance and the First Order, and we can presume this ship is located in the latter area. You can view the photo below:

In one of his several lengthy reports on Galaxy's Edge, Entertainment Weekly's Anthony Breznican wrote about the in-universe story and mythology that has been established for Galaxy's Edge. The real-world attraction is set in the fictional place of Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu within the Star Wars universe. His description of the TIE Echelon seems to match the above photo:

The First Order recently sent a garrison here seeking … something. We don’t know what they’re trying to find, but we know a little about the Stormtroopers who are doing the hunting: “The 709th, the Red Fury,” says Scott Trowbridge, the Imagineering creative executive in charge of Galaxy’s Edge. “There are some stories to be told about those folks, and why they’re here, what they came looking for — or who they came looking for.”

This elite squad from The First Order has arrived on a new ship — the TIE Echelon, which has a cockpit similar to Kylo Ren’s batwinged shuttle but the curved foils of Darth Vader’s TIE Advanced x1. A lifesized version of the TIE Echelon is parked in the First Order-controlled sector of Black Spire Outpost, near one of the entrances to the land. Don’t try to touch it. The Red Fury doesn’t like strangers approaching their ship.

Being that we have no official confirmation that this photo does indeed show a TIE Echelon, all of this should be taken with a grain of salt for the time being. Nevertheless, it's exciting to see another small part of Galaxy's Edge fully realized. Fans have also speculated that the TIE Echelon could itself appear in the still untitled Star Wars: Episode IX, being that Galaxy's Edge's story takes place between The Last Jedi and Episode IX. It will be interesting to see where this ship pops up next!

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is slated to open first at Disneyland in Anaheim, California in June, and then at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida in the Fall. If you haven't checked out all the fascinating recent news from Galaxy's Edge already, be sure to click here.
