To elaborate on Ben's great point about Daredevil; those times when it does use the full range of what it can get away with feel like they are letting loose. Like there is certainly r-rated violence throughout, cause in the states we have strange standards of what is over the line in terms of swearing, gore, and sexual explicitness, but for the most part while they have those moments that really stick out as dark, they do so cause there is gravitas. Like for sure Fisk taking a guys head off with a door, or the level of violence in some of the fights, or how bloody Matt is after Nobu and him fight that first time; those are great cause they are visceral and intense. But they are not the majority of the fights.

Plus DD still has only one subtle f-bomb per season and no full on nudity. There are limits to even that series in terms of "maturity". This does make we mixed on what a star wars show could do though. I am almost always the one to groan when people tout something up as great cause it is r, and yet I don't want to write off the idea of a rated r star wars thing. Mostly cause what constitutes as r is such a large range.

For instance many of the best star wars comics and novels would need to be r. Stories like the Bane trilogy, Last Shot, the dark horse comics, and maybe the Gillan Vader comic would all likely be R. They would be more akin to like Strange Things in terms of gore and swearing, but that stuff is still more or less mature.

I don't want nudity or f-bombs in star wars, and I am pretty squeamish, butttt at the same time if someone has the star wars version of Logan or the Wolverine by god do I want that to be R. I mean minus the brief nudity and f-bombs in Logan.

I hated when people thought arkham knight would be "a real batman game" cause it was changed to M, but I am glad it was M cause despite it not being intended till the ESRB graded it - the scenes that pushed it over needed to be there. That game is not gross, or excessive, but if it came down to cutting the M rated moment or keeping it in, I am glad they made their choice.

That is how I feel with SW, I am gonna be suspicious if they come out and tout something as R, but if the rating comes out maybe with the first trailer or something; then I will know it was natural and not pitched as "let's make something grim dark"
