Rumor: Gina Carano Cast In 'The Mandalorian'

By: Dominic Jones

It looks like the floodgates guarding the secret cast of Star Wars: The Mandalorian, the live action series coming to the new Disney+ streaming service in 2019, are finally starting to open.  Following the confirmation yesterday that negotiations were indeed ongoing with Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) for the lead role on the series, The Hollywood Reporter is now adding that Gina Carano has joined the cast.

Carano is a former mixed martial arts star who has made the leap to acting in recent years.  Her previous credits include 2016's Deadpool, 2013's Fast and the Furious 6, and the 2011 film Haywire which was directed by Steven Soderbergh.

Despite the lack of official casting announcements (even Carano and Pascal have yet to be confirmed by Lucasfilm or Disney), filming on The Mandalorian has been underway since October.  The episodes are written by executive producer Jon Favreau and directed by Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), Bryce Dallas Howard, Deborah Chow (Better Call Saul), and Rick Famuyiwa (Dope).

The Mandalorian is set following the events of Return of the Jedi and follows the adventures of a "lone gunfighter" as he navigates the galaxy in the post-Empire/early days of the New Republic.  The series' first season is expected to be eight episodes.  The series is executive produced by Favreau and Filoni, as well as Colin Wilson and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.

We now await official confirmation on the casting from Lucasfilm and Disney.
