Filming for the final installment of the sequel Trilogy is set to begin this month, and we already have news about a potential filming location. It seems Star Wars may be returning to a classic filming location for a third time.

Star Wars: Episode IX is directed and co-written by J.J. Abrams, and production is expected to get underway very soon. We have received word filming will be taking place at the Cardington Sheds, a former Royal Air Force station, located in Bedfordshire, England, that features massive hangers that were once used to house gigantic airships.

The scoop comes from Airship enthusiast Trevor Monk(via Making Star Wars) who recently tweeted that preparations for filming were happening at the Cardington Sheds:

In addition, Trevor Monk also spoke with Star Wars News Net, claiming that at least three separate sources have confirmed to him that Episode IX will indeed be filming at the sheds:

“Hearing episode IX will have parts filmed at Shed 2 at Cardington. Heard from three different people so far. One works there and said he wouldn’t say – but clued me well, the others are contacts separate from the first person saying the same. Nothing physical yet to show.”

For those unfamiliar, Star Wars' history with Cardington Sheds goes all the way back to 1977 when they were used as a filming location for Rebel base on Yavin IV for Episode IV: A New Hope. And nearly 40 years later, for the 2016 film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the sheds were once again used to represent the Massassi Temples on Yavin IV.

So, we have to ask the question; will Star Wars: Episode IX be taking us back to Yavin IV? Of course, the Cardington Sheds could simply be standing in for another new location, especially considering the sheds have become a popular filming location for many other popular films. But what if is Yavin IV? It would be interesting to see the Resistance, which was just recently "reborn" as the new Rebellion in The Last Jedi, return to one of its first bases inside the Massassi Temples of the jungle moon. It's also worth noting that Poe Dameron actually grew up on Yavin IV, so it would be interesting to see him return to his old stomping grounds.

Nonetheless, it's extremely exciting to be getting reports on filming locations for the next Star Wars film, which is still a long way away from release.

Star Wars: Episode IX is set to hit theaters December 20th, 2019.
