Ron Howard Comments On The 'Star Wars' Stand Alone Film Rumors

By: Dominic Jones

Over the past week or so there have been several reports about what impact the disappointing box office returns of Solo: A Star Wars Story on the future of the Star Wars stand alone films.  But what does the director of Solo think about all of this?  TMZ caught up with Ron Howard recently and asked him about the rumors.  Howard down played the rumors, saying, "I don't think that's entirely accurate. I think that was reported, but I don't think that's exactly what I understand."  You can see Howard answer the question below,

Howard went on to say,

"Look everybody at Lucasfilm and Disney really cares about the fans. And so, you know, I think it's an ongoing process of like discovering what it can be and what it can all add up to. So, it's really a process. And I like the fact that personally that they take some chances, take some risks, and see how people respond to it."

The director also commented on the response to Solo, saying that even though the box office returns were "not what everyone was looking for", he still considers the movie a success.   He told TMZ, "This movie did really well for me.  I had a great experience.  Exit polls were great and reaction was terrific among fans."
Solo has brought in $354 million worldwide thus far, making it by far all the lowest grossing of the four Star Wars movies Disney has released (The Force Awakens, Rogue One, and The Last Jedi all grossed over $1 billion).  This led to reports that all future stand alone films that were in development, including an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie and a Boba Fett movie, were on hold.  Subsequent reports have disputed this claim, suggesting that Lucasfilm is reevaluating its strategy post-Solo, however multiple stand alone films remain in development.
