The next installment in Star Wars animation has been announced! Lucasfilm revealed today that Star Wars: Resistance, a new animated series from executive producers Dave Filoni, Athena Portillo, Justin Ridge, and Brandon Auman, will debut this fall! Set prior to the events of The Force Awakens, the series will star a young pilot, who's mission is to spy on The First Order, named Kazuda Xiono. The series will also feature appearances from characters featured in the Sequel Trilogy like Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma (with Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie returning to voice their respective characters).
Also announced today was an all-star cast which includes, Christopher Sean (Days of Our Lives), Suzie McGrath (East Enders), Scott Lawrence (Legion), Myrna Velasco (Elena of Avalor), Josh Brener (Silicon Valley), Donald Faison (Scrubs), Bobby Moynihan (Saturday Night Live), Jim Rash (Community) and Rachel Butera (Tammy’s Tiny Tea Time).
Star Wars: Resistance executive producer Dave Filoni (who also served in this role on Star Wars Rebels and as Supervising Director on Star Wars: The Clone Wars) said in a statement,
"The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in
World War II aircraft and fighter pilots. My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so
that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed
racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of
excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire
team has been wanting to do for a long time."
No premiere date for the series has been announced, however Lucasfilm did share that the series will debut on Disney Channel this Fall and will then move to Disney XD (similar to what Star Wars Rebels did in its first season).
