Rumor: 'Star Wars' Filming to Take Place in Scotland This Summer

By: Dominic Jones

Star Wars production may be making a trip to Scotland this summer.  A new report from The Daily Record claims that filming for a new Star Wars movie will take place "in Argyll and elsewhere in the north of the country."  Specifically, an area known as "Rest and Be Thankful" (pictured above, which was also featured in the 2012 James Bond film Skyfall--hat tip to Fantha Tracks for that tidbit) has been reportedly selected for filming.  The shoot will reportedly take place in June.

The Daily Record claims that this filming would be for the first installment in Rian Johnson's new stand alone trilogy, which doesn't really make sense.  Those films are still in very early stages, with no completed scripts or release dates set.  However, the timing of this reported shoot would line up with the production of JJ Abrams' Star Wars Episode IX, which is slated to be shot next year.

The exact timeline of Episode IX's production is not known, but a June shoot is by no means out of the question.  Production on The Force Awakens began in May 2014 and production on The Last Jedi began in February 2016.  If Episode IX follows a similar schedule to those films (and given its December release date that seems likely) then a June shoot would make perfect sense.

As always, this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.
