Rian Johnson Confirms The Runtime For 'The Last Jedi'

By: Benjamin Hart

A couple months back we received information from various sources indicating that Star Wars: The Last Jedi could be the longest Star Wars film to date. Because those sources were sketchy at best, we could not confirm the news, but today the director of the film did just that.

According to IGN, Rian Johnson, who wrote and directed The Last Jedi, confirmed at a press conference in France that film will boast a 150 minute runtime. Clocking in at 2 and a half hours long means The Last Jedi is officially the longest Star Wars film ever, overshadowing the now second-longest film, Attack Of The Clones, which is 142 minutes long. Johnson also briefly commented on the creative process for The Last Jedi:

"Disney gave us a real freedom in writing. It was something very organic. For me, it was like when I worked on my old movies."

In addition, Rian also confirmed that Rogue One director Gareth Edwards will have a cameo in Episode VIII. He reportedly would not comment on the recent rumor that the British Princes will have cameos as well.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi arrives in theaters on December 15th.  The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and stars Daisy Ridley as Rey, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, John Boyega as Finn, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Kelly Marie Tran as Rose Tico, Laura Dern as Amilyn Holdo, Benicio Del Toro as DJ, and Lupita Nyong'o as Maz Kanata.
