New Picture Of Rose Tico From 'The Last Jedi' Revealed

By: Dominic Jones

Time Magazine has released a new still image from Star Wars: The Last Jedi featuring Kelly Marie Tran in character as Rose Tico.  The image was released as part of a story about Tran and Laura Dern, who plays Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, joining the cast of Star Wars and the increased representation in the Star Wars galaxy.  The image shows Rose in her Resistance costume, looking very intense and pointing some sort of tool or weapon at someone.  Check it out below,

Tran is the first Asian-American women to appear in a prominent role in the Star Wars films.  She explained to Time Magazine what this means to her saying,

"When I was growing up, I didn’t see anyone like me in movies. And I wanted to be white for the longest time, because I thought that meant my story would be valid. When you’re a kid, you see images on TV and on billboards and in magazines–they all look the same, and you wonder, 'Why don’t I look like that? And can I change myself to look like that?'"

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15th.  The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and stars Daisy Ridley as Rey, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, John Boyega as Finn, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Kelly Marie Tran as Rose Tico, Laura Dern as Amilyn Holdo, Benicio Del Toro as DJ, and Lupita Nyong'o as Maz Kanata.
