Rumor: Description of New Stormtrooper Variant in 'Episode VIII'

By: Dominic Jones

In this new era of Star Wars where we have a film every year, there is a lot of overlap between the production of the films and, by extension, the news about the films.   If we look past this December's release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to next December's release of Star Wars Episode VIII.  Our friends over at MakingStarWars.net have some new details regarding a stormtrooper variant we'll be seeing in the film and what they may be doing.  As usual, there is a chance this may not be true but if you are trying to avoid all Episode VIII spoilers then stop reading now.  And if you do choose to read on, be considerate of others who are spoiler-free when discussing the story on social media.  This is your SPOILER ALERT!

According to MSW, there will be a new trooper in the spirit of FN-2199 (aka TR-8R) who is known as "The Executioner".  He's described as having a black matte line that covers half his helmet.  As for his weapon and what he'll be doing, MSW reports,

"The Executioner’s weapon is not unlike FN-2199’s at the handle but it has three spinning blades on the end that are said to be like something out of Phantasm (think of the crazy blades that come out of the spheres in those films).  We think he has a shield but we haven’t been able to confirm if he actually uses it in the film or not.

One rumor with some legs we have heard but cannot confirm is that Finn will go up against The Executioner and this time he doesn’t have Han Solo to save him like in he did last time (more on Finn’s mission very soon)."

For more details on "The Executioner" and to see a fan's sketch of the character, head over to MSW.

As always, this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.
