A preview clip from the commentary track JJ Abrams recorded for the 3D blu-ray release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released today by USA Today. The clip features Abrams commenting on the scene where Kylo Ren kills Han Solo towards the end of the scene. Abrams shares his thoughts on what Kylo was thinking in the scene, as well as how his Lawrence Kasdan's son Jon (who co-wrote the upcoming Han Solo A Star Wars Story film with his father) helped them construct the scene. Check out the clip below,
I find Abrams' commentary about Han actually convincing Kylo in the moment to walk away is fascinating. Given that Kylo ultimately goes through with killing his father, it raises some fascinating questions about how he feels about that act. It also begs the question of if, seeing as he was so close to redemption in this moment, Kylo can be redeemed? It's a question that left up to Rian Johnson and Colin Trevorrow to answer in Episodes VIII and IX.
The 3D Blu-ray of The Force Awakens hits shelves on November 15th.
