Ian Liston, Wes Janson In 'Empire', Passes Away At Age 68

By: Benjamin Hart

We are very saddened to report the loss of another beloved member of the Star Wars family. Ian Liston, who is best known to most as Wes Janson in The Empire Strikes Back, tragically lost his battle with cancer at the age of 68 last week. Apart from portraying Wedge Antilles' gunner, Liston also had another small part in Empire as an AT-AT driver.

Shortly after his death, the web site announced the news of Liston's passing with the following statement:

"We regret to announce that Ian Liston has died. He would have wished to acknowledge the work of the Royal Marsden Hospital where he was proud to have taken part in experimental treatments that not only prolonged his life but promise to do the same for many future victims of prostate cancer.

Ian Stuart Liston was born on August 4, 1948. He died on October 1, aged 68

May the Force be with him."

Apart from Star Wars, Mr. Liston had an extensive acting career, appearing in television series such as Doctor Who and films including A Bridge Too Far(1977).

On behalf of all of us at the SWU, I want to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ian Liston.
