Ewan McGregor Is Game For A Duology Of Obi-Wan Films

Obi-Wan Kenobi is one character that has been on fan's minds more so than usual lately. The Star Wars Rebels episode "The Holocrons Of Fate" (Spoilers!) heavily hinted that Kenobi could be appearing in the series before this season is out. And, of course, fans are still clamoring for the beloved Jedi to get his own standalone Anthology film at some point.

One of the people that has long supported the idea of an Obi-Wan film is Kenobi himself, Ewan McGregor. Since portraying Obi-Wan in the Prequel Trilogy, and voicing him briefly in The Force Awakens, McGregor has been outspoken about his willingness to return to the role. At a recent premiere for his latest film, American Pastoral, which he is directing, McGregor was interviewed by French outlet Premiere who asked him about the long rumored Obi-Wan film.

A translated version of the interview was shared by Den Of Geek. Here's what Ewan had to say:

“I’ve always thought there was a story to tell between my last one and Alec Guinness’ first one... It would be fun to film that story now I’m older. I’d be the right age. I’m forty-five, Alec Guinness was what, sixty? I could do two of them (laughs)!... I hope that they’re going to explore different genres under the Star Wars banner. And one of those could be an Obi-Wan Kenobi feature film. Or two! The Obi-Wan Kenobi Story Part 1 and Part 2!”

He further adds that he is a bit apprehensive about answering questions about Star Wars because it makes it sound as if he's "begging for work". I, for one, certainly wouldn't mind if Ewan did a little campaigning for at least one Obi-Wan film. This is something Star Wars fans have been begging for for years. And as he says, he's the perfect age to portray and older Obi-Wan living on Tatooine between Episodes III and IV. We'll just have to wait and see, and keep our fingers crossed, that Ewan will get his wish sooner or later.
