Del Rey has today released an online chronological timeline of all the canonized Star Wars novels. The timeline operates on an interactive basis, as users are able to scroll across the timeline and discover where each novel is situated in the current 'canon' timeline. Supplemented with the timeline, Del Rey posted a short announcement about the online system on the 'Star Wars Books' Facebook page.
The online timeline is of course a useful asset because it allows readers to determine which book they would like to read, based on where it is situated on this, easy to digest, guide. In addition, new book releases can be added to the timeline quickly and effectively by Del Rey, such as the upcoming literature about Ahsoka and Rogue One. Moreover, from an economic standing it is a savvy marketing ploy by Del Rey. When you click on a book cover, a drop down box appears which tells you a short summary of the novel and provides a link to 'Buy Now'. All in all, the interactive nature of the digitized timeline will cater to a growing online readership base.
