While we eagerly await the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story this December, production on the following Star Wars film is currently happening in London. Being that filming has been going on for several months now we can expect principal photography for Star Wars: Episode VIII will be ending soon, and director Rian Johnson seems to confirm it with some recent social media posts.
Our friends at Club Jade alerted us to some minor tweets and Instagram shares that hint at the inevitable conclusion of filming for Episode VIII. First off, last week Johnson tweeted a photo of a piece of clothing with an embroidered "VIII" on it:
Just got our first piece of embroidered swag. Seriously feels like NOW we're a real movie. pic.twitter.com/09DjT2NLhe— Rian Johnson (@rianjohnson) June 24, 2016
Next, on Instagram he shared an intriguing photograph of what appears to be inside a soundstage:
Then he shared an image of himself wearing a hat featuring a Panda in an Astronaut's helmet, which is an obvious nod to the film's code name "Space Bear"(We've seen other imagery like this in the past as well.):
And finally, the most glaring evidence that filming is almost done comes from this tweet:
Holy cow, we're starting to wrap main cast members. https://t.co/FVpmNCqq78— Rian Johnson (@rianjohnson) June 28, 2016
While all of together still isn't a lot to go on, I think it's definitely a prelude to things to come. With filming wrapping up anytime now and Rian Johnson will be appearing at Star Wars Celebration Europe to talk about Episode VIII, I think there's a good chance the title will be revealed very soon, perhaps along with a teaser trailer. You may remember that the title for Episode VII was revealed alongside the announcement that principal photography. I'm thinking we could be looking at a similar reveal this time around.
Nevertheless, Star Wars: Episode VIII - [Insert Title Here] will hit theaters on December 15th, 2017!
