Last month a rumor surfaced claiming that Benicio Del Toro was close to being cast in Star Wars Episode VIII. Not it appears that those rumors were actually true as the actor himself has confirmed them while speaking with Entertainment Tonight recently. The actor was vague on details but did say he was in talks and seemed very confident he'll get the role:
"I can’t tell you much about it but I think that it might happen. It looks like it’s gonna happen so I’m very excited... I can’t talk too much about it. The script is hard to get. They told me they’d cut my finger if I talk about it."
You can watch the full interview below, which includes Del Toro discussing the impression the original Star Wars film made on him back in 1977:
The original rumor from The Wrap stated that Del Toro was up for the villain role in Episode VIII. Joaquin Pheonix was also reportedly offered the role. Those tidbits remain unconfirmed, but it's good to know Del Toro may indeed be cast in the film.
Star Wars Episode VIII hits theaters May 26th, 2017!
