The casting rumors strike back! After spending most of 2013, and a good portion of 2014, dealing with casting rumors for Episode VII, most of us enjoyed the reprieve that followed the official cast announcement. But the break has come to an end. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that three actresses are in contention and are being screen tested for the lead role in the 2016 Stand Alone film, directed by Gareth Edwards. They are: Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Rooney Mara (Girl With the Dragon Tatoo), and Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything).
No word on if they are all testing for the same role or not, however THR does specify that Maslany is testing for the lead role, whereas the other two are just expected to test. They also point out that scheduling may be an issue for Jones who is slated to star in Ron Howard's Inferno. Neither Disney nor the actors reps commented on the report.
I have to say, these are all stellar choices and it would be a great thing for Star Wars to cast any of these actors.
As always, this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.
