Fans Petition US Government To Build Death Star

By Chris Seekell

We recently reported that fans in Tennessee are crowd-sourcing the construction of a life-size Millennium Falcon. While they may very well accomplish this goal over time, more than mere fans are needed to build the most fearsome battlestation in the universe.

This month, fans have petitioned the United States Government to construct a Death Star. At the time this article was written, this petition, which is on the White House's website, has gained over 3,000 of the 25,000 signatures needed for the President to issue an official response. The petition reads:

Secure resources and funding, and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016.

Those who sign here petition the United States government to secure funding and resources, and begin construction on a Death Star by 2016.

By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense.

While it is highly unlikely Obama will follow through with this zany request, especially since even former President Reagan could not push through his own "Star Wars" defense project, it would be entertaining to hear his response to this petition if it reaches enough signatures.
