John Boyega Says He's Growing His Hair Out For 'Episode IX'

Very little is currently known about the final installment in the sequel trilogy, Star Wars Episode IX, hitting theaters in December 2019.  Some behind the scenes details are known, but when it comes to story, the film remains shrouded in mystery (as it should over at year and a half before its release)   John Boyega, who plays Finn, was interviewed recently and shared one tiny thing about what we can expect from Finn: he'll have long hair.  Or, at least, hair that is longer than Boyega's currently is.

The actor told Yahoo Finance, "I can’t wait to start shooting the next and final leg of the franchise. The first step is growing out my hair, so you can wait for the trailer to see why."

So, it's not much.  Some have speculated that this means we'll be seeing a major time jump between The Last Jedi and Episode IX.  However, just because Boyega is growing his hair out doesn't mean there is an extended jump.  The Last Jedi picked up immediately after The Force Awakens, breaking a long standing Star Wars tradition of having at least a year pass in-universe in between films.  Given the nature of the ending of The Last Jedi, and the unfortunate fact that Carrie Fisher will not be in Episode IX, many have speculated that the time-jump will return.  Boyega growing his hair out could certainly be a sign of this (although we are reading way too much into a seemingly throwaway statement, but what do expect from Star Wars fans?)

Star Wars Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.  The film is directed by JJ Abrams with a script by Abrams and Chris Terrio.
