There's a ton of big Star Wars news coming out today! Earlier this afternoon we were treated to the new that Game Of Thrones showrunners  David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will be creating a brand new series of Star Wars films. Now, thanks to Disney CEO Bob Iger, we have some news regarding Star Wars on the small screen.

During a Disney investor call, Iger briefly gave an update on Star Wars television productions. While Bob Iger previously announced that a live action Star Wars series was in development for Disney's upcoming streaming service, he has now stated that there is "not just one" series on the way. According to Polygon, Iger said that “a few Star Wars series specifically” are being created for their upcoming app, and hinted that Disney could be close to making an official announcement regarding a showrunner for at least one of them.

In addition, Bob Iger was also asked about the new Star Wars film series by Weiss and Benioff. He reportedly said:

“Their interest was in creating a series of films that are Star Wars-based. We’ve actually been talking to them for a long time. To my knowledge they didn’t express interest in creating a [TV] series... They’re focused on a point in time in Star Wars mythology, and we’re taking it from there."

It's nice to know we have multiple television series on the way to fill that void that will be left by Star Wars Rebels, which wraps up with its final episodes next month. It's also very interesting to hear more about this new series of films by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. What could this "point in time" be? Fans have already been speculating that Rian Johnson's trilogy of films, which is reportedly completely separate, could be set in the Old Republic era. Could this new series also be focused on the distant past, well before the original films? It will definitely be exciting to learn more about all these projects in the (hopefully) near future!
