'Solo' Trailer Expected to Debut During The Super Bowl

The wait for the next Star Wars trailer may finally be over.  The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Disney will debut the first trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story this Sunday during the Super Bowl.  The news comes from their "industry insiders." Other movies expected to have trailers during the big game include Black Panther, A Wrinkle In Time, and Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom.  Disney declined to comment when asked by The Hollywood Reporter.

David S. Goyer and Diana Williams Talk 'Secrets of the Empire' on 'The Star Wars Show'

The end of 2017 saw the opening of Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire at Disney Springs in Orlando, Florida, a new hyper reality experience from ILMxLAB and The VOID.  Since then, locations have opened at Downtown Disney in Anaheim, California, and London, England, with new locations expected to open in Los Angeles and Las Vegas later this year.  The experience takes fans on an undercover mission as a rebel cell as the infiltrate the Empire, with the help of Rogue One fan favourite droid K-2SO (voiced by Alan Tudyk).

Respawn's 'Star Wars' Game Expected to Launch in EA's Fiscal Year 2020

The next big release in the world of Star Wars gaming is still pretty far away.  Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson and CFO Blake Jorgensen held their annual Q3 conference call yesterday and they gave brief update about when fans can expect to see new Star Wars games.  They addressed the game that Respawn is working on, with Jorgensen giving fans a bit of an idea when they can expect that game.  Jorgensen said that Respawn's game, "most likely will drop in Fiscal 20 versus another [Star Wars] Battlefront."  EA's fiscal year 2020 lasts from April 1st, 2019 to March 31st, 2020.

Thomas Brodie-Sangster Talks About His 'The Force Awakens' Cameo

Many fans were surprised (myself included) when Thomas Brodie-Sangster appeared on screen briefly as First Order Petty Officer Thanisson in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.  Brodie-Sangster has had a impressive career outside of Star Wars, appearing in films like Love Actually, the Maze Runner franchise, and in the TV series Game of Thrones, so it was a bit strange to see him in such a small role. In a new interview with USA Today, Brodie-Sangster spoke about how that cameo came up.

Lupita Nyong'o Doesn't Know Yet If She Will Be In 'Episode IX'

One character who a major role in The Force Awakens, but didn't factor into The Last Jedi as much was Maz Kanata.  Maz was key to Rey and Finn's stories in The  Force Awakens, but in the sequel her role was reduced to a glorified cameo passing on information to Finn, Poe, and Rose about how to fin the master code breaker. With Maz's creator, director JJ Abrams, being back for Episode IX, some have speculated that we will see her play a more important role in that film.

Marvel Editor Talks About Working With Lucasfilm on 'Star Wars' Comics

Season Two of 'The Freemaker Adventures' Coming to DVD March 13th

Lucasfilm announced this week that the second season of Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures will be released on DVD on March 13th.  The announcement was made on the official Star Wars Facebook page.  The DVD set will include all thirteen episodes of the second season, as well as five mini-episodes and an exclusive Darth Vader pin. The second season saw the Freemaker family join up with the rebel fleet, and featured appearances by fan favourite characters like Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, and Hera Syndulla.

Dave Filoni Reveals The Final Sound Mix For 'Star Wars Rebels' Is Done

The era of Star Wars Rebels is (sadly) almost at its end. The 90-minute series finale will air on Disney XD on March 10th at 8:30pm, and production on that finale is pretty much done. Rebels executive producer Dave Filoni confirmed on social media this weekend that the final sound mix for the series has been completed. Filoni posted, "The final sound mix for Star Wars Rebels is complete. The music, the sound design; it’s everything I hoped it would be."

Carrie Fisher Wins Posthumous Grammy for 'The Princess Diarist' Audiobook

The late Carrie Fisher won her second Grammy award tonight in the Best Spoken Word category, winning over some tough competition which included Bruce Springsteen, Bernie Sanders, and Neil Degrasse Tyson.  Fisher won for her performance narrating her book The Princess Diarist, which reflected on the early and later stages of career and featured excerpts from the diaries she kept during the production of the original Star Wars movie in 1977.  The book was released in November 2016, just over a month before she died after suffering a heart attack on a flight home from the UK where she had been promoting the book.

Rian Johnson Shares Behind The Scenes Video Of John Williams Conducting 'The Last Jedi' Score

Today has been a momentous day for the cast and crew of Star Wars: The Last Jedi after learning that their film has received four Oscar nominations. The Last Jedi was nominated in the categories of Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Visual Effects, in addition to Best Original Score. Legendary composer John Williams now has a grand total of 51 Academy Award nominations thanks to Episode VIII.

Domhnall Gleeson Reveals The Moment He Asked For In 'The Last Jedi'

General Hux spends much of The Last Jedi being pushed around by other characters.  Whether it's Snoke, Kylo Ren, or even Poe Dameron, Hux frequently finds himself at the mercy of others.  But there is one moment where he considers taking control for himself.  When Kylo Ren is knocked out following his showdown with Rey and Hux considers drawing his blaster and ending Ren once and for all.  Ultimately Ren wakes up and Hux puts his blaster away, for the time being. This moment was apparently the request of actor Domhnall Glesson, who revealed in a recent interview with filmmaker Kevin Smith for IMDb that he asked director Rian Johnson to include a moment where the audience is reminded what kind of character Hux really is.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for this year's Academy Award this morning and Star Wars: The Last Jedi picked up four nominations.  The Last Jedi was nominated for Best Original Score, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Visual Effects. The Oscars will be held on March 4th with Jimmy Kimmel hosting.

'Rogue One' Producer Allison Shearmur Has Passed Away

Some sad news to report tonight.  Allison Shearmur, a producer of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story passed away this evening at the age of 54 after a battle with lung cancer. Shearmur's other credits include being executive producer of the final three Hunger Games films, and producer of Cinderella (2015), and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

Rian Johnson Humorously Responds To 'The Last Jedi' Critics On Twitter

While Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been very successful at the box office having earned over $1 billion and becoming the highest grossing film of 2017. But that didn't change the fact that the film has attracted more than it's fair share of critics since it's release in December. And as to be expected, many Star Wars fans have been extremely vocal about their gripes with Episode VIII, sometimes engaging the creators behind the film on social media.

Earlier this afternoon, Lucasfilm released the trailer for the final half season of Star Wars Rebels that will air over three weeks at the end of February and beginning of March.  The trailer offered many enticing teases for this season including an appearance by the Emperor (voiced by Ian McDiarmid), call backs to the Mortis trilogy from The Clone Wars, and Grand Admiral Thrawn unleashing an orbital bombardment on Lothal.  Rebels executive producer Dave Filoni spoke with Entertainment Weekly's Anthony Breznican about the trailer and offered some intriguing hints about what's to come in the final run of episodes.

'The Handmaid's Tale' Director Reed Morano Hints At Future Collaboration With Lucasfilm (Updated!)

Reed Morano, director of the first three episodes of the acclaimed Hulu series The Handmaid's Tale, may be about tho join the galaxy far, far away.  The director revealed in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter that she had recently met with Lucasfilm president (and Star Wars producer) Kathleen Kennedy and while she doesn't explicitly state that she's in the running for a Star Wars gig, she does hint that there may be more to come.

'The Last Jedi' Nominated For Nine Empire Awards

The award nominations for Star Wars: The Last Jedi continue to roll in.  Empire Magazine announced this week the nominees for the 23rd annual Empire Awards and The Last Jedi picked up nominations in nine categories.  Among the categories Star Wars is nominated in are Best Film, Best Director (Rian Johnson), Best Female Newcomer (Kelly Marie Tran), Best Actor (John Boyega), and Best Actress (Daisy Ridley).  Voting for the awards is open until February 2nd and the awards will be presented on March 18th.

Report: More 'Star Wars Rebels' Episode Titles and Descriptions Revealed

There's only seven episodes left in the final season of the animated series Star Wars Rebels and while Lucasfilm has not officially revealed any details about those episodes, the information has slowly been making its way online.  Last week, the episode titles, descriptions, and air dates for the first two episodes back from the break were found online and now the same information about the next two episodes has been released.  The information has been released on the TV listings website Zap2It and was first caught by the German Star Wars fansite Jedi-Bibliothek.  Check them out below,

'The Last Jedi' and 'Secrets of the Empire' Nominated for VES Awards

The Star Wars films have always been celebrated for their achievements in the world of visual effects, and The Last Jedi is no different.  The nominations for the 16th annual Visual Effects Society Awards were announced yesterday and the most recent Star Wars film picked up four nominations.  In addition to The Last Jedi's nods, the ILMxLAB experience Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire picked up a nomination as well.  The Visual Effects Society Awards ceremony will be held on February 13th.

Official 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' Synopsis Released

While much of the focus of Star Wars fandom remains on The Last Jedi, it is beginning to shift towards the next film, Solo: A Star Wars Story, which hits theaters in just over five months. While we've yet to actually see any official trailers or still images from the film (other than behind the scenes content director Ron Howard put on Twitter), an official synopsis for the film has been released.  The synopsis comes from Disney's 2018 media kit, and was first reported online by Bryan Young over at Big Shiny Robot

'The Last Jedi' Is Now The Tenth Highest Grossing Film Of All Time Worldwide

Star Wars: The Last Jedi has surpassed a couple of new milestones at the box office this week, becoming the highest grossing film worldwide released in 2017 and hitting #10 on the highest grossing films of all time list.  To achieve both of these feats The Last Jedi worldwide gross passed that of Beauty and the Beast, and currently sits at $1.269 billion.

'Thrawn: Alliances' Release Delayed to July 24th

The sequel to Timothy Zahn's novel Star Wars: Thrawn has been delayed by less than a month.  The novel, titled Thrawn: Alliances, is now slated for a July 24th, 2018 release date (it had previously been scheduled to be released on June 26th). The release date change was noted in publisher Penguin Random House's official online catalogue.

Amy Hennig Talks About What Happened With The Visceral 'Star Wars' Game

Back in October it was announced that Electronic Arts would be shutting down their Visceral studio and that the Star Wars game Visceral had been working on since 2013 would be shifting to their Vancouver studio and going through a massive overhaul. The reports that followed made it clear that the game was as it was being developed was all but dead. The game's director Amy Hennig spoke recently about the game's shut down and how it impacted her during a discussion with Sean Vanaman for Polygon.  She doesn't go into the specifics of the shut down but she does discuss how the evolving video game industry led to the downfall.

Best Buy and Target Exclusive 'The Last Jedi' Home Media Releases Available for Pre-Order Now

Although the release date for Star Wars: The Last Jedi on home media has not yet been released, Lucasfilm is already encouraging fans to pre-order their copies.  The official Star Wars Movies Facebook page posted links to the pre-order pages for three retailer exclusive versions of the film's home media release, two from Best Buy and one from Target.  The Best Buy versions are a steelbook copy of the film's 4K Ultra HD release (which also includes a blu-ray copy and a digital download) and a steelbook copy of the film on blu-ray (which also includes a DVD copy and a digital download).  The Target exclusive blu-ray release includes a booklet of behind the scenes information (as well as DVD copy and a digital download).

'Star Wars: Rivals' Mobile Game Announced

Lucasfilm announced a new mobile competitive action shooter game called Star Wars: RivalsAccording to StarWars.com, "the gameplay is rooted in cover-based PvP skirmishes where players build the ultimate team to challenge opponents in combat arenas."  The game encourages fans to play out showdowns between iconic characters in the Star Wars galaxy.  Rivals is available now in the Apple App store and pre-registration has begun for the Google Play store.

'The Last Jedi' Editor Talks About the Death of Admiral Ackbar

When it comes to characters who died in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the focus tends to be on the likes of Luke Skywalker, Vice Admiral Holdo, and Supreme Leader Snoke.  But there's another character who was killed off during the events of The Last Jedi, whose death some fans feel was underplayed.  That is, of course, the death of Admiral Ackbar.  Ackbar was on the bridge during Kylo Ren's assault on General Leia's flagship, The Raddus, and was sucked out into space as a result (and, unlike Leia, did not have the Force to guide himself back to safety).

John Williams Says He Will Write The Score For 'Episode IX'

John Williams will finish what he started.  The legendary composer who wrote the score for all eight episodic Star Wars film beginning in 1977 and continuing all the way through 2017's The Last Jedi, confirmed to Variety that he will return to write the musical soundtrack for 2019's Star Wars Episode IX.  Williams will team up with director JJ Abrams once again, having previously worked with Abrams on 2015's The Force Awakens, to complete the sequel trilogy.

The final scene in Star Wars: The Force Awakens needed a change after the story for The Last Jedi was developed.  Luke Skywalker actor, Mark Hamill revealed in a recent interview with the Chinese entertainment website Mtime that the final scene of The Force Awakens would have featured Luke using the Force.  Apparently, the scene would have played out pretty much the same as it does now, only that when Rey finds Luke on Ahch-To there were would have boulders floating behind him.

Report: Rebels Midseason Premiere Episode Titles, Descriptions, and Release Dates

With so much Star Wars happening on the big screen, it's easy to forget that there's some exciting stuff coming on television.  Star Wars Rebels is entering its final half season this year and big things are expected from the series as it races towards its finale.  While Lucasfilm hasn't made any announcements yet about when the series will return to Disney XD, the first two episode titles, descriptions, and release dates have made their way online via Zap2it.  The episode titles and descriptions were first reported by Star Wars Universe and Jedi-Bibliothek (with English translations provided by their founder Florian on Twitter).  Check them out below,

Daisy Ridley Downplays the Idea of a Rey and Poe Romance in 'Episode IX'

Despite the characters only spending one scene together across two movies, some fans are hoping to see the characters of Poe Dameron and Rey enter into a romantic relationship in Star Wars Episode IX.  This all stems from their first meeting together aboard the Millennium Falcon in the final moments of The Last Jedi when their paths finally crossed.

Rian Johnson Discusses the Ending of 'The Last Jedi'

In the final moments of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, after it has been revealed that Luke Skywalker was not actually on Crait, we see the character look up and see a twin sunset one more time.  He then fades away, becoming one with the Force. The death of Luke Skywalker was not something the filmmakers took lightly. Writer/director Rian Johnson explained his thought process for the scene in an interview with The Huffington Post.

'The Last Jedi' Ireland Featurette Goes Behind The Scenes Of Ahch-To

A new featurette has surfaced for Star Wars: The Last Jedi which focuses on the portion of filming that was done in Ireland. The scenes on Ahch-To, where the first Jedi Temple is located in the film, were specifically shot on Skellig Michael island, off the southwest coast of the country, as well as in the coastal region of Donegal.

Ewan McGregor on an Obi-Wan Film: "I Don’t Know Any More About it More Than You Do"

Obi-Wan Kenobi actor Ewan McGregor had a big night at the Golden Globes, winning the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for his role on the FX series Fargo.  At the awards ceremony, many people noticed that McGregor was sporting a beard that was very similar to one he had during the production of Revenge of the Sith.  This led to speculation that McGregor was preparing to jump back into the role as Obi-Wan for the long rumored Kenobi stand alone film.
