Even though he's not writing the full score, the next Star Wars movie will not go without John Williams' involvement.  The legendary composer, who has written the score for all eight episodic Star Wars films, revealed his involvement in next year's stand alone adventure Solo: A Star Wars Story in a recent interview with Variety.  Williams will compose the film's key theme, which he will then pass off to John Powell, who will compose the rest of the soundtrack

By: Dominic Jones

Fans of the Star Wars "Legends" story telling (the books, comics, and video games released prior to September 2014) should pay extra attention to a certain scene in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.  Supervising Sound Editor Matt Wood revealed in a recent interview with /Film that a nod to those stories can be heard in the new film when Rey approaches the Force tree on Ach-To.  During the scene, a chant can be heard that is luring Rey towards to tree where the ancient Jedi texts are kept on the island.

Paul Bettany Compares 'Solo' to a "Gangster Film"

By: Dominic Jones

While we're all focused on Star Wars: The Last Jedi, we needn't forget that we are just six months away from the next Star Wars movie, Solo: A Star Wars Story, hitting theaters on May 25th, 2018.  The film is a stand alone adventure about the young Han Solo and takes place prior to the events of A New Hope.  Outside of the cast and crew very little is known about the film, so new information is exciting whenever it comes in.  The latest tidbit comes from actor Paul Bettany, who joined the project late after Michael K. Williams' role had be cut when he couldn't participate in the extensive reshoots that resulted from Ron Howard taking over directing duties from Phil Lord and Chris Miller five months into shooting.

A new behind the scenes featurette for Star Wars: The Last Jedi focused on the character of Rose Tico and the actress who plays her, Kelly Marie Tran, has been released on the official Star Wars social media channels.  The featurette tracks Tran's journey to become Rose from the audition phase through her time on set.  A really cool aspect of this new video is that it includes a portion of the chemistry read Tran did with Finn actor John Boyega to make sure she was right for the role.  You also get to see writer/director Rian Johnson's seemingly make the decision to cast Tran as Rose.  Check out the video below,

Rian Johnson Shares How He Briefly Considered Putting Lando in 'The Last Jedi'

By: Dominic Jones

One question Star Wars fans, especially original trilogy fans, ask about the sequel trilogy is why hasn't Lando Calrissian made an appearance?  Lando was a key player in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi and many hoped he would be given the same treatment as Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Leia Organa and Billy Dee Williams would reprise his role for one of the films.  However, Lando has not appeared in either installment so far, meaning Episode IX is the last chance to see the old card playing swindler in the sequel trilogy.

SPOILER ALERT!

One of the big mysteries that has been driving the sequel trilogy was the identity of Rey's parents.  The mystery of their identity is a focus for Rey's story line throughout The Last Jedi, up until the reveal that they are truly nobodies.  But before that reveal, Rey was willing to go to great lengths to find out their identity, including descending into a dark side cave on Ach-To where she has a vision of thousands of herself all trying to reach her parents.

Video: Steele Wars Roasts 'Star Wars' Fan Petitions

By: Dominic Jones

It seems that we've gotten to a place where whenever something big happens in Star Wars, the people who aren't happy about it create an online petition to undo it.  Whether this is to bring back the old Expanded Universe (Legends), fire JJ Abrams from Episode IX, or strike The Last Jedi from the canon of Star Wars, there is always a petition.  Instead of linking to these petitions (for two reasons; one, they're ineffective, and two, they're ridiculous and make fans look bad), we're going to link to this video of comedian Steele Saunders of the Steele Wars Podcast roasting one these petitions.  Check out the clip below,

SPOILER ALERT!

One moment that consistently results in gasps of awe from the audience during Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the moment where Laura Dern's Vice Admiral Holdo jumps to hyperspace in The Raddus and crashes through Snoke's Mega-Destroyer and several other First Order star destroyers.  The way the score drops out and the theater goes totally silent and Holdo smashes her ship through her enemies is one of the film's best moments.  The Last Jedi editor Bob Ducsay spoke about that moment in a new interview with Collider, describing how the moment came to be.

It's rare that you can get a group of Star Wars fans to all agree on something when it comes to the galaxy far, far away, and that includes reaction to a Star Wars film.  The most recent film release, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, is no different.  While some think it's the greatest installment in the saga, others claim the film is a betrayal of all that came before it.  The film's writer/director Rian Johnson spoke with Business Insider recently about the reaction to film, specifically the negative ones.  Johnson states that the negative responses hurt, but he understands where they come from and doesn't take it personally.

Rian Johnson Discusses the Meaning of "Broom Boy" in 'The Last Jedi'

By: Dominic Jones

SPOILER ALERT!

The final scene in Star Wars: The Last Jedi is unlike any other scene in Star Wars.  Once our heroes have been reunited aboard the Millennium Falcon, the film cuts back to Canto Bight and we see the kids we'd seen in the stables earlier and one of them is telling a story about Luke Skywalker.  Moments later they are chased out by a slave master and then we see one of them use the Force to pull his broom to him.  He then poses with the broom as if it were a lightsaber, while looking towards the stars and wearing the Rebel Alliance ring that Rose gave him earlier in the film.  Fans have dubbed this character "Broom Boy."

Rian Johnson Talks About Captain Phasma in 'The Last Jedi'

SPOILER ALERT!

Following the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens two years ago one of the questions fans were asking was: why wasn't Captain Phasma in it more.  Phasma, who was played by Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie, had been such a major part of the promotion for the 2015 film and then she had so little screen time.  More was promised from the character in The Last Jedi and the film definitely delivered on that (though some fans still feel the character could have been used more).  However, it now seems unlikely that the character can return for Episode IX seeing as she lost her duel with Finn and fell into a fiery explosion.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hasn't even been in the theaters for a full week yet, and work is already ramping up behind the scenes for the JJ Abrams directed follow-up, Star Wars Episode IX.  Last week, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that Abrams would be pitching him the story of Episode IX on Friday and now it seems the working title for the film has been revealed.  The title, which was reported by the team over at Fantha Tracks, is along the same lines as previous working titles like "Blue Harvest" for Return of the Jedi, "Space Bear" for The Last Jedi, and "Red Cup" for next year's Solo: A Star Wars Story.  Which is to say, it doesn't tell us very much about the film, but rather is still fun to know.

Carrie Fisher's Contributions to the Dialogue in 'The Last Jedi' Revealed

SPOILER ALERT!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi contains many bittersweet moments, but perhaps none more so than the scenes involving Carrie Fisher as General Leia.  Fisher died unexpectedly late last year, but her final scenes for the film were already shot meaning The Last Jedi did not need to be changed. But it did give double meaning to certain lines and moments (the ones that really hit me are Leia saying to Luke "I'm just glad you're here, at the end" and Luke saying to her "No one is ever really gone").

SPOILER ALERT!

One of the moments that has fans talking coming out of Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the confrontation between Supreme Leader Snoke, Kylo Ren, and Rey.  The scene begins with Rey being brought before Snoke and ends with one of the film's most shocking twists: Kylo Ren kills Snoke and declares himself Supreme Leader of the First Order (though he can't convince Rey to join him).  There had been a lot of speculation about who Snoke was and what he wanted, thus leading some to feel the his story ended rather abruptly.  But, according to The Last Jedi writer/director Rian Johnson, it had be this way to further Kylo Ren's story.

SPOILER ALERT!

One of the big mysteries coming out of The Force Awakens was: who are Rey's parents?  While some fans hoped that she would be revealed to be the descendant of a famous Star Wars bloodline, The Last Jedi presents the opposite as the truth.  In the film, Rey seems to accept that her parents were no one, and Kylo Ren taunts with the fact that they sold her for "drinking money."  While there has been speculation that Kylo may not have been totally truthful, writer/director Rian Johnson explains that he believes that Kylo was telling the truth (though Episode IX writer/director JJ Abrams may still have a a different idea).

Rian Johnson Explains Leia's Big Moment in 'The Last Jedi'

SPOILER ALERT!

Perhaps the most bittersweet aspect of Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the fact that it was Carrie Fisher's final performance as Leia Organa, her most iconic character.  Fisher passed away unexpectedly last December after suffering a cardiac arrest.  Fortunately all her scenes for the film had been shot and the filmmakers chose not to alter her role in the film to reflect the actress' passing.  And Leia had some iconic moments in the new film.  Perhpas her biggest moment came following an attack by the First Order on her Resistance cruiser when she was thrown out into space.  She then used the Force to return herself to safety.  This was the first time we have seen character actively using the Force (despite the revelation that she was Force-sensitive coming in Return of the Jedi).
