The Queen's Crown Estate Wouldn't Let 'Star Wars' Film On Their Land

The power of Queen Amidala and Princess Leia apparently couldn't sway the Queen of England, at least when it comes to filming on land she owns.  "Our head isn't turned by star names or star films," Nick Day, the Crown Estate's head of commercial operations, told the BBC.  Day was speaking in relation to a request that had been made by Lucasfilm to shoot scenes from a Star Wars film on land that was own by Queen Elizabeth II.  Apparently, the filmmakers made the request "a few of years ago" to shoot at Windsor Great Park in Berkshire, but Day turned them down.

Day explained the decision to the BBC,
"Our priority is to maintain and protect Windsor Great Park and we can facilitate film crews if we're sure the risk to the park is minimal.  But Star Wars is a huge machine, and there's also massive outside interest in those sort of things. It wasn't right for here."

The specific Star Wars film is not named, though a safe guess might be that it was The Force Awakens, perhaps for the scenes outside Maz's Castle on Takodona.

But Star Wars shouldn't feel too bad, Day told the BBC that "eight out of  10" request to film on land owned by the Queen get turned down.  Perhaps next time, Star Wars producers should try asking Prince William or Prince Harry for permission first.  The princes are known Star Wars fans, who both visited the set of The Last Jedi last year and rumored to have cameos in the film.
