On This Day: July 10, 1930

By Ciaran Duggan,

Bruce Boa, who played General Carlist Rieekan in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, was born on this day in 1930.

Carlist Rieekan was a human male from the planet Alderaan, who served as a fighter for the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars.

The 73-year-old later became a founding member of the Rebel Alliance and was fortunately off-world when his home planet was destroyed by the Empire's Death Star.

Rieekan later obtained the rank of General and assumed command of Echo Base on the ice planet of Hoth.

The General would later order the evacuation of Echo Base during the Battle of Hoth in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.
