Rian Johnson Downplays the Role of Romance in 'The Last Jedi'

By: Dominic Jones

One of the things that often brought up as missing from the new era of Star Wars films, that was prevalent in George Lucas' original six installments, is romance.  In the original trilogy it was Han and Leia, in the prequels there was Anakin and Padme, in The Force Awakens and Rogue One there's nothing--at least nothing that compares to the relationships of the previous trilogies.  To be fair, the love stories of the previous trilogies didn't pick up until the second chapter.  So, will The Last Jedi continue this tradition?

The first hero we say any imagery of wielding a lightsaber in the promotion of Star Wars: The Force Awakens was John Boyega's stormtrooper turned good guy Finn. While Finn was seen using a lightsaber in posters, trailers, TV spots, and even a couple of times in the film, ultimately the lightsaber was meant to be used by Finn's compatriot Rey in the film's final duel with Kylo Ren.  But this has raised the questions: is Finn Force-sensitive, and will we see him using a lightsaber again?

Finn Will Truly Be A "Big Deal" In 'The Last Jedi', Says John Boyega

During one particular scene in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, runaway Stormtrooper Finn, played by John Boyega, falsely boasts to Han Solo (Harrison Ford) that he is a "big deal in the Resistance". While Solo saw right through the lie at the time, and sarcastically referred to Finn as "big deal" throughout the rest of the film, Finn would ironically become the hero he claimed to be near the end of Episode VII.
