By: Benjamin Hart

News regarding the upcoming Han Solo standalone "A Star Wars Story" film has been few and far between recently, but things just heated up on the casting front. Variety has reportedly just revealed the shortlist of actresses that are up for the role of female lead in the film, which stars Alden Ehrenreich and is directed by The Lego Movie's Chris Miller and Phil Lord.

According to Variety, Zoƫ Kravitz(Mad Max: Fury Road, Divergent), Tessa Thompson(Selma, Creed) and Naomi Scott(The MartianPower Rangers) were all "tested" in London this week. Regarding the news, Variety adds:

"This would mark the second round of tests; a previous round took place earlier this summer. While it seems like a decision is on the horizon, sources it could still be a couple weeks till one is made."

They also followed up on the recent rumors regarding the casting of a younger Lando Calrrisian:

"As for the role of Calrissian, reports had surfaced that “Atlanta” star and creator Donald Glover was high on the list, but Disney and Lucasfilm still wanted a second round of tests to be certain on their decision."

Filming is expected to begin in early 2017, with a release on May 25th, 2018, so the cast will definitely have to be finalized soon, and we may even get some official announcements about it. As for this news, even though it's coming from a reliable source, we have to take it with a grain of salt until it's officially confirmed by Lucasfilm.

  1. Spoiler: lady dies or traitors or breakup

  2. I'm totally guessing: it's gonna be his sham "wife" who was hunting him down in the comics before turning into a member of the hero characters.

Which is really weird as the storyline made me think of Jake Blue's spurned bride trying to kill him in The Blues Brothers, played by none other than Carrie Fisher!
