For nearly a decade now Ashley Eckstein has been a majorly influential figure in Star Wars fandom and geek culture abroad. She not only voiced Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, she also went above and beyond to create her own clothing company, Her Universe. After six successful years of providing women of all ages with sci-fi and fantasy apparel, it appears the company has just taken it's first steps into a larger world.
On Friday evening Her Universe announced that "certain assets" of the company had been acquired by Hot Topic from Ashley Eckstein and The Araca Group. Her Universe will be operated as a division of Hot Topic, with Eckstein remaining to oversee the company. Those curious about what all this means and what changes might be in store for Her Universe need look no further than a letter written by Eckstein regarding the future of the company:
"Her Universe will continue to be a stand-alone brand that is available at multiple retailers and on HerUniverse.com just like we always have been. We will also be continuing with the Her Universe Fashion Show and Her Universe Press. Honestly, the Her Universe brand that we've all grown and built together will continue as you've known it, but exciting growth and amazing opportunities lie ahead."
She further outlined the growth we can expect for Her Universe, which will include expanding their market into Europe, making more plus sizes available, the introduction of men's clothing, a re-launch of an improved Her Universe Press, as well as additions of new licenses, active wear and fashion categories.
Ashley Eckstein also did a live Q & A on Facebook shortly after the news was announced. You can watch it here:
This all sounds very exciting and we certainly want to wish Ashley the best of luck in seeing Her Universe to it's full potential. Much like Disney acquiring Lucasfilm just a few years ago reinvigorated the Star Wars saga, hopefully Hot Topic's partnership will do the same for Her Universe.
