Ever since the very first trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, fans have wondered about the identity of the Rebel leader seen with Mon Mothma and Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) talking to Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) at the Yavin Base. Some fans even speculated he might be Agent Kallus from Star Wars Rebels. But that is not the case, says director Gareth Edwards who spoke with Entertainment Weekly following the release of the most recent trailer. According to Edrwards, the character's name is General Draven.
We've seen Draven, who's played by Alistair Petrie (Cloud Atlas, The Night Manager), in all three Rogue One trailers. We don't yet know if he has any larger significance in the film or the rebellion in general though, given his prominent role in what is clearly an important scene in the film, we'll undoubtedly learn more about him eventually--either in the film or in the tie-in material.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on December 16th, 2016.
