Lucasfilm Thanks The People of Ireland in Newspaper Ad Following 'Episode VIII' Shoot

By: Dominic Jones

The location filming for Star Wars Episode VIII that has been taking place in Ireland over the past few weeks has now wrapped.  Obviously the arrival of the production crew of a major blockbuster film will cause inconveniences for the people that live in the area around the film sets.  Now that filming has wrapped, Lucasfilm took out an ad in The Irish Examiner to thank the people of Ireland for their support and patience during the shoot.  Check it out below,

The letter reads,
"Lucasfilm and the Cast and Crew of the 8th installment of the Star Wars saga would like to thank the people of Crookhaven, Goleen and the Brow Head Pennisula for the warm welcome we have received throughout the location shoot here in West Cork.

We have been captivated by the landscape of the Wild Atlantic Way, it has provided a spectacular backdrop for our story

The tireless commitment of our Irish crew, the enthusiasm and support of all the people of West Cork have made our Irish adventure one we will always treasure.

Go mbeidh an fórsa leat! – May the force be with you!!"

Members of the cast and crew, including director Rian Johnson and stars Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley, also thanked the people of Ireland on social media after they left the area last week.  Production crews were still on hand a few days after that shooting second unit material.  Based on the newspaper ad, it seems that filming has now completely wrapped out there.

Our friends over at the Rebel Legion Ireland paid a visit to the sets (or as close as they could get) and took some fun photos while they were out there, check them out below,

Rumor: Disney Executives Unhappy With 'Rogue One', Four Weeks of Reshoots Upcoming

By: Dominic Jones

The internet has been blowing up today after reports emerged this morning that Disney Executives are unhappy with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, slated for released this December.  Page Six reported that "The execs at Disney are not happy with the movie, and ‘Rogue One’ will have to go back into four weeks of expensive reshoots in July."  They also reported that Disney was taking a more hands on approach with Rogue OneDeadline added that," there were no test screenings and rather a re-shoot decision was made after Disney suits and producers watched the initial cut of the highly anticipated film".

Obviously this report has lead to a great deal of concern from Star Wars fans and movie going audiences, who are still coming down from the high of The Force Awakens and hoping to recapture that magic this December (and every year for the foreseeable future).  However, as the cover of The Hichthiker's Guide to the Galaxy would tell you, Don't Panic!

Reshoots happen on just about every movie made, and studios and filmmakers expect them.  The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams said on a recent episode of The Nerdist Podcast, "Some of the most important moments are things that you have to sometimes get later".  Abrams revealed that nearly ten minutes of The Force Awakens was actually shot at Bad Robot Studios in California after principle photography had wrapped at Pinewood Studios in London.  He also explained that reshoots can be anything from rewritten scenes to smaller moments focused on the characters which can greatly enhance the final film.

All that to say, reshoots don't necessarily mean the film is bad or is going to flop.  And even if the current cut of Rogue One isn't very good, there's still no need to panic.  We're more than six months away from its release in theaters.  That's plenty of time to fix whatever problems the film has.  Remember, the first cut of A New Hope back in 1976 was described in the 2004 documentary Empire of Dreams as being an "unmitigated disaster" and George Lucas, his then wife Marcia, Richard Chew, and Paul Hirsch were able to fix it just through editing.

Again, there's no need to worry yet.  Rogue One will probably still turn out to be a fun movie.  Reshoots happen, it's part of the process and will hopefully result in a better film.  Donnie Yen said recently that he's heading back to London soon to film some reshoots for Rogue OneMakingStarWars.net also reports that they heard some reshoots had already happened for the film last week.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on December 16th and is directed by Gareth Edwards.  The film stars Felicity Jones, Forest Whittaker, Donnie Yen, and Diego Luna.

Daisy Ridley Discusses Why 'Star Wars' Resonates With Audiences

By: Dominic Jones

The latest issue of Big Issue magazine features a new interview with Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Daisy Ridley, who is promoting her latest role as Taeko in the Studio Ghibli film Only Yesterday.  Of course, the topic of Star Wars was raised, and Ridley shared some thoughts on why fantasy films resonate so much with audiences.

Ridley told Big Issue,
"When you watch something you feel removed from, it becomes that incredible thing of it feeling very close and very far away. You probably have a bigger emotional reaction than reading a newspaper and just seeing facts and figures [because] instead you see someone’s life play out, their soul, and the way they react and respond to the world around them."

She connected this idea to The Force Awakens, saying,
"People are weighed down by awful things that are happening and what they see on the news. If everybody puts a piece of themselves into Han Solo and Han Solo dies – in the cinema, where it’s dark – you can express it and it alleviates some of the pain. His death is obviously not as important as actual lives that are lost but people probably use it as some kind of carrier for the grief."

This is a very interesting perspective from Ridley, and one that I think is right on the money.  It's always nice to see that the people involved in the making of Star Wars productions understand why Star Wars is so beloved.

Only Yesterday will be available on DVD and Blu-ray July 5th, 2016.

Donnie Yen Preparing For 'Rogue One' Reshoots

By: Benjamin Hart

We are now less than 200 days away from the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story! Rumors have been swirling recently(some more sensational than others) that suggest the film will be doing reshoots soon. One of the stars of Rogue One, actor and martial artist Donnie Yen, confirmed recently that he is not finished working on it. In an interview with Orient Daily(translated by Jayne Stars), Yen was asked if he would be spending Father's Day with his family, which he replied:

“I can’t. My wife and I will be flying to Japan in two days for a project. After that, I’ll be flying all over the place for some more work. I’m going to have to go back to London soon too, to do some additional photography for Rogue One.”

Donnie Yen has been doing a significant amount of work overseas recently. Both Rogue One and XXX: The Return of Xander Cage have taken him away from his family for extended periods of time. He spoke briefly about his recent workload:

“It was never really about the money. I picked up those jobs because they were a rare opportunity. I did Rogue One because my kids are huge fans of Star Wars."

Although there seems to be a lot of hysteria going around regarding reshoots, it's a common practice for almost all films. It seems now Rogue One is beginning to move into the final stages of production. They will surely be busy right up until the film's December 16th release date!

Lawrence Kasdan On Han Solo Project and Sequel Trilogy

By Ciaran Duggan,

Last week revered film writer Lawrence Kasdan received the 'First Icon Award' for 'Contributions to the Cinematic Arts' at the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival on May 22. After receiving the award, Kasdan answered some interesting questions about the Han Solo Anthology film and the Sequel Trilogy.

The 'First Icon Award' is accorded to artists who have showcased artistic excellence in film and inspired pre-eminence in film-making on a global scale. Undoubtedly Kasdan represents as a credible candidate for receiving the award. Kasdan's most famous contributions to the movie industry have included co-authorship of the The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi & The Raiders of the Lost Ark

In his Q&A session after the award ceremony, Kasdan discussed his excitement for the Han Solo anthology film, disclosed the release date for the film and also announced the month and year in which production for the new Han Solo movie would commence.

Q: What can you tell us about the Han Solo project?
Lawrence Kasdan: Young Han! (Laughs).
Q: For the fans, generally speaking, should they be excited?
Lawrence Kasdan: Oh, I think so! You know, Chris Miller and Phil Lord are going to direct it. They’re great, funny and imaginative and we’ve had a great time together. My son [Jon] and I wrote the script and Chris and Phil are working on it and they’re about to move to London to start shooting in January. And it should be fun.
Q: 2018 is the release date?
Lawrence Kasdan: Yes. They’re actually scheduled for May. The [other Star Wars films] are falling on Christmas -- Rogue One and Episode 9. Han will come before Episode 9.

Kasdan then went on to discuss his role in the upcoming Star Wars Sequel Films: Episode VIII and Episode IX.

Q: Are you aware of the complete story arc of the new trilogy? Are you involved with that too?
Lawrence Kasdan: (Laughs) I have a little information!
Q: Are you helping steer that story?
Lawrence Kasdan: [Star Wars Episode 8 Director] Rian [Johnson] is a friend of mine. I’m getting to know Colin Trevorrow, who is going to direct Episode 9, so I feel very involved with it.
Q: Did you think there would be a Star Wars Episode 9 when you were doing Episode 2/5?
Lawrence Kasdan: By the time I came on for 2... you know, it was already the biggest picture in the world, so it wasn’t a shock that they were going to do more. But yeah, it’s amazing... that was 40 years ago!

His final remarks about the 'Star Wars' franchise centered around his appointment as co-writer in The Force Awakens.

Q: The Star Wars movies that you had your hands on seem to have more emotional depth and they really resonate. We’ve all watched them thousands of times and it seems like Han Solo really shines in the ones that you’ve got your hands on.
Lawrence Kasdan: Well, I love Han.
Q: Is he what brings you back?
Lawrence Kasdan: Well yeah, I was originally going to just write Han, but I had contracted to be in the story group on Episode 7, which became "The Force Awakens". And then there were problems. A wonderful writer, Michael Arndt, just couldn't do the time pressure, and people were being hired in England and it was enormous pressure and he stepped away. We stayed in contact and he's a lovely man, then J.J. [Abrams] and I took over, and now I found myself instead just doing Han and consulting on "Force Awakens," we were actually writing Episode 7 together and it happened very fast.

Some interesting reveals from Kasdan. I find it particularly fascinating how closely connected he has become with all of the major Star Wars movie projects, from anthology movies to the Sequel films. Arguably, Kasdan is the most experienced expert on the Star Wars films that is currently working for Disney.

Will his involvement help Disney continue to expand the Star Wars film franchise and make amazing Star Wars movies? Or are there certain caveats attached to his ongoing presence? Do fans give too much credit to Kasdan's involvement in the films?

DARTH DADDY's CUSTOMIZING CORNER: OLDBOY CTTS

Oldboy Custom Tattoo Shop are a small pack of Thai tattooists located in Bangkok, Thailand that have followed their interest in action figures and collectibles to create some truly original custom sculpt work with realistic details and paint apps. They started off a few years ago in 2012 collecting 1/6th scale figures. After collecting for a while, they explored different techniques of sculpting and painting figures heads with the objective of trying to achieve the most realistic effects possible. They told us that it took a very long time to refine their techniques, but during that time their interests moved down to the 6" scale due to there being very limited artists/customizers for this scale. They wanted to position themselves as a recognizable and distinctive 6" scale customs maker. For now, their focus is totally on 6" scale headsculpts and soft goods for mainly the Star Wars line (Black Series/Bandai S.H. Figuarts) due to their passion and love for the movie. They also have plans in the future to explore the Marvel line and have speculated moving into the Art/Designer toys industry.

As for materials and techniques used to achieve their works, Oldboy CTTS sculpting is done with Super Sculpey Firm, along with carving/sculpting tools that are all available online. Their head repaints/paint are done purely with a hand brush using a variety of different paint types (acrylics mostly, and washes/enamels) to achieve different effects desired.

As for their future work, they will be striving to accomplish the very challenging work of creating characters from the Star Wars universe that have not received the attention that many fans that they talk to really want! Therefore, a few characters shortlisted are Qui-Gon Jinn, variations of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and as for the Marvel line, they really want to have a take on Tony Stark. Also some projects on hand that are really close to going on pre-order within the next few months are their Daniel Craig headsculpt. Last but not least, they will be doing a special give-away when their Facebook page reaches the 5k "likes" milestone, which will be their George Lucas headsculpt. This will be a really limited piece ( >10 worldwide). They will be announcing a small activity for all their fans to have a chance to receive it!

Video: 'Hearing Star Wars: The Force Awakens'

By: Benjamin Hart

While Star Wars has also been beloved for its stunning visuals, what we see on screen would not have near the impact if it wasn't for what we hear. Sound design is key in any film, but Star Wars takes it to a whole other level with incredibly iconic sounds such as the Lightsabers, blasters, Droids, aliens ships, and much more. Legendary sound designer Ben Burtt created many of those sounds during the production of A New Hope in the mid-1970's and subsequently went on to work on all six of the original Star Wars films.

Now, in the wake of the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we have a whole new collection of sounds to enjoy, as well as some old favorites. Burtt returned to work on the seventh installment in the saga alongside supervising sound editors Matthew Wood and David Acord. The Force Awakens is full of interesting sounds, some you've heard before, like the the scream of TIE Fighters, the firing of Han Solo's DL-44 Blaster and Chewbacca roars. The film also introduced a plethora of new sounds, including BB-8's voice, the sizzle of Kylo Ren's Lightsaber, and the terrifying roars of the Rathtars.

A new supercut video created Zackery Ramos-Taylor brings attention the incredible sound design of The Force Awakens, quickly cycling through an assortment of sounds. Everything from Han Solo punching a Kanjiklub member to Starkiller base firing is in there. Be sure to watch, and listen, below:

By: Benjamin Hart

The guest list for Star Wars Celebration Europe 2016 is continuing to grow! Today, StarWars.com
announced that none other than Star Wars Rebels executive producer Dave Filoni will be in attendance, and he won't be alone. He will be joined by "special guests" who will be on hand to present a screening of the first two episodes of season three. As always, Filoni will no doubt be making the rounds at this Celebration to discuss Rebels and his previous work on Star Wars: The Clone Wars at various panels and events.

Earlier this year Filoni also teased a major Rebels reveal at Celebration Europe that fans have been waiting for. What he could be announcing is anyone's guess, but it's certainly exciting!

UPDATE: Filoni teased an announcement he would be making at Celebration on social media following the announcement.  Filoni posted the following picture with Ahsoka Tano's line from "Twilight of the Apprentice", the Season Two finale of Star Wars Rebels "There's always a bit of truth in legends".  For those wondering, the book in question is Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire (makes you wonder if he'll be confirming a certain rumor....)

Star Wars Celebration Europe 2016 takes place July 15th, - 17th at the ExCeL London Exhibition Centre in London, England.

'Star Wars: Episode VIII' Wraps Production In Ireland

By: Benjamin Hart

Over the past few weeks and months production on Star Wars: Episode VIII has temporarily moved to Ireland, but now it appears that filming there has been completed. Star Wars: The Force Awakens began the trend by using Skellig Michael Island as the setting for the planet Ahch-To, where Rey finds Luke Skywalker at the end of the film. We can further assume that the extensive filming that has taken place in locations such as Ceann Sibéal and Malin Head recently will include more scenes set on Ahch-To.

According to RTE.ie, filming in Ireland has ended and a wrap party for the cast and crew was held Wednesday to celebrate. Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley and over 300 others who participated in the shoot converged on the popular Foxy John's pub in Dingle. RTE reports:

"Those attending the private function witnessed Ridley, who plays the role of Rey in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, go behind the counter to pull a few pints for her colleagues. Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker, also dropped in to celebrate the end of the three-week shoot in Ireland. The 64-year-old was driven to the pub on Main Street in a blacked-windowed SUV."

In addition, director Rian Johnson shared this tweet:

Also, actor Joonas Suotamo, who portrays Chewbacca along with Peter Mayhew, posted this thank you video to the people of Dingle on his Facebook page:

Daisy Ridley also confirmed she was home from shooting in Ireland with an Instagram post:

And last, but certainly not least, Mark Hamill shared this cheeky tweet about what he will miss about Ireland:

'Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Season Pass Announcement

By Ciaran Duggan,

In the past hour LEGO Star Wars has provided further details concerning the content of The Force Awakens Lego Game, which is set to hit shelves this June.

The LEGO Star Wars gaming team have announced that users can purchase a LEGO Star Wars 'Season Pass' for The Force Awakens game. The season pass will allow gamers access to:

- 3 New Level Packs: Poe's Quest for Survival, First Siege on Takonda and Escape from Starkiller Base
- 4 Character Packs: The Prequel Trilogy, Star Wars: Rebels, The Freemaker Adventures, The Clone Wars
- An exclusive season pass Jedi Character pack.

You can take a look at the cool poster which accompanied the announcement below:

The season pass sounds pretty awesome. It is refreshing to hear that LEGO have placed emphasis towards giving gamers a higher volume of content, with access to new maps, adventures and characters, stretching from the Force Awakens to the Prequels and even the Clone Wars. However, it is also fair to say that users will still have concern at the fact that there will be added cost to gain access to this new content (which remains undisclosed). Some will question why this content isn't available to gamers who purchase the game on it's own.

Give us your thoughts to this announcement about the LEGO 'Season Pass' down below.

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set for worldwide release on June 28 2016.

Rare 'Revenge Of The Jedi' Teaser Trailer Unearthed

By: Benjamin Hart

Yesterday we celebrated the 33rd anniversary of the release of Star Wars: Episode - Return Of The Jedi on May 25th, 1983. To coincide with the milestone, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has unveiled an incredible rare piece of Star Wars history in the form of a teaser trailer. The 30 second long trailer announces the then upcoming arrival of "Star Wars: Revenge Of The Jedi" in theaters at Christmas of 1983 with flashes of several still images from the film on the screen.

Now, obviously, Revenge Of The Jedi was an initial title that was rejected late in production due to the filmmakers coming to the conclusion that Jedi do not take revenge. But that wasn't before Revenge made it into much of the marketing material for the film, such as this trailer.

The trailer itself was attached to a double feature of A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back that was screened in U.K. theaters from May through December in 1982. The teaser was the result of negotiations between Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox about a possible Christmas 1983 release for Jedi. It was thought to be a way to get families out of the house during Winter and would provide a wealth of merchandising and promotional opportunities. Additionally, it was considered that props and costumes from the film were to be free by then to use in department store window displays in the U.K. The plan was ultimately scrapped in favor of releasing Return Of The Jedi in the Summer on June 2nd, 1983, one week after the U.S release.

This is all especially interested considering that its sequel, The Force Awakens, would go on to be released during the Holidays more than 30 years later. Fans in the U.K. almost had a Star Wars Christmas back in 1983.

Be sure to visit the Academy's website to read more and see other rare promotional artifacts.

Chewbacca Visits A School In County Kerry, Ireland

By: Benjamin Hart

Over the past few weeks we've been getting numerous reports about the production of Star Wars: Episode VIII that is currently happening in Ireland. Filming has recently been taking place along the coastline of the country at such locations as Malin Head and Ceann Sibéal. In doing so, members of the cast and crew have been spotted in various locations. Carrie Fisher is said to be in the area, and other members of the cast, including Mark Hamill, we're seen at an airport recently.

But so far the most notable cast member appearance happened at a school in County Kerry just a few days ago. The BBC reports that none other than the mighty Chewbacca himself made a surprise appearance to schoolchildren at the Scoil Fheirtearaigh National School in Ballyferriter this past Monday. According to Movie Bit and at tweet they found, it appears the actor in the suit is none other than Joonas Suotamo.

Suotamo portrayed Chewie alongside Peter Mayhew in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and doubled for the legendary actor in the more strenuous action scenes that Mayhew could not perform.

The principal of the school, Mairín Ní Chartúir, spoke briefly about how the Wookiee's visit came to be:

"We received a call from the production team asking could they pay a surprise visit to the kids on Monday. Of course, we said yes and were told to not let anyone know about the visit and the parents were told on Monday that the kids would be staying an hour later for the surprise. Chewbacca walked in with the production team and took photos with the children and watched them perform the Star Wars theme tune that the kids had learned, as we are quite a musical school."

You can watch video from the event below:

Star Wars: Episode VIII opens in theaters on December 15th, 2017!

To the left you can spot the new Imperial Walkers, which they confirmed to be All Terrain Armored Cargo Transports(AT-ACT). 'Roxy The Rancor' Creators Unveil New Luggabeast Counterpart

By: Benjamin Hart

Attendees of recent Star Wars Celebrations and other conventions are no doubt familiar with Roxy The Rancor. Roxy is a 700-pound 1:1 scale replica of the Rancor seen inside Jabba The Hutt's palace in Return Of The Jedi and was created using almost 2,000 cubic feet of polystyrene foam. Roxy has been a huge hit among Fans who are always clamoring for a photo-op with her at any event she's brought to. Now it appears Roxy will have some competition at cons in the future as her creators Rick Bohler and Erik Hollander, have introduced a brand new replica creature. A Luggabeast, recently seen being ridden by Teedo while he attempted to capture BB-8 in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, will be hitting convention floors everywhere very soon. This creation is 8 feet tall, 13 feet long, weighs around 450 pounds and is constructed on a wood frame using a variety of materials including EPS sculpting foam, fiberglass and PVC.

In an interview wit i09, the creators spoke about how they came to choose the Luggabeast as their latest project after considering both the Rathtar and Happabore from The Force Awakens. The creature's part-owner and event coordinator Matt Paisley had this to say:

"We felt the Luggabeast was significant since it was the first scene where Rey meets BB-8, and we know there are a lot of Rey cosplayers out there who would love the opportunity to recreate that scene!”

You can see more photos of the Luggabeast below, and check out the full article on i09!

They are also in the process of choosing a name for the Luggabeast. The choices have been narrowed down to Lemmy, Louie, Lenny, Leroy and Lumpy and you can vote for your favorite by clicking here. His name will be revealed at the Luggabeast's first convention appearance this weekend at MegaCon in Orlando, Florida.
