BREAKING: New 'Episode VIII' Set Photos Reveal The Millennium Falcon & More

By: Benjamin Hart

Oh yes, it's that time again! After an extended lull in leaks from the production of Star Wars: Episode VIII, we just got hit with another huge reveal. Today, the Daily Mail has released a ton of new aerial photos of several outdoor Episode VIII sets at Pinewood Studios in London. The photos give us our latest look at the Millennium Falcon and a new location on Ahch-To, as well as other buildings under construction. Of course, the following photos could be considered spoilers, so if you don't want to see or know anything about Episode VIII, I suggest you stop reading now. This is your official SPOILER ALERT.

First, we get several different angles of the Millennium Falcon which is being assembled at the bottom of a hill. Above it sits a massive set that is unmistakably meant to match the planet Ahch-To, where Rey finds Luke Skywalker at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. While the set features the now iconic rocky stairway, it's what's near the top of the hill that's most intriguing. We can assume this is a brand new location on the planet. You can check out some of the photos below.

In addition, we also get a peak at two other sets. The first being a structure that it located behind the Ahch-To set on top the the hill. This building gives me a Prequel-vibe. It looks like something you might see on a metropolitan world like Coruscant. While I don't expect we'll be going back to that city planet, I'd bet it has something to do with the Republic. The design on the ground in front of it is also worthy of note.

And finally, we have one photo of a set in a different area. This one is not fully built and features several buildings. Some of the structures have a circular design to them, which could be a sign they could be on the same planet as the building above.

Be sure to head over to the Daily Mail to see even more photos of the set, as well as a short overhead video. Star Wars: Episode VIII opens in theaters on December 15th, 2017.

Mads Mikkelsen Reveals More Details About 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story'

By: Dominic Jones

Yesterday, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Mads Mikkelsen revealed that he was playing the father of Felicity Jones' Jyn Erso in the film.  Today, he revealed more details about the film, which hits theaters on December 16th, 2016, and his role in an interview with The Evening Standard.

First he revealed that Rogue One will feature flashbacks, saying,
“I spend a lot of time with [Jones] and she’s a wonderful actress. I play her dad at the time of Felicity and I play her dad when she’s younger, so we jump back and forth in time.”

He was also asked about the possibility of classic Star Wars characters appearing in Rogue One.  Mikkelsen told The Evening Standard,
“Some of them – but I would reveal too much. There are iconic characters in our film and also characters you have never heard of. It’s a mix.”

There have been lots of rumors about classic villains appearing in the film.  We've already seen Mon Mothma in the trailer, so it seem possible that we might see some more classic Rebels in the film as well.  It will also be interesting to see proper flashbacks (not just a Force-induced vision that includes flashbacks) in Star Wars film.

Check out the video below,

Pop Culture: Star Wars on Radio X's 'The Chris Moyles' Show'

By Ciaran Duggan,

The famous British radio and television presenter, Chris Moyles, was disbelieved and shocked to discover that one of his co-hosts was unable to tell him who R2-D2 and C-3PO were.
Each weekday the Global Radio Station, Radio X, broadcasts 'The Chris Moyles Breakfast Show'. The show is renown for its light-hearted, morning humour and today was no different. Moyles' co-host, Dave, was unable to distinguish between C-3PO and R2-D2 or provide the collective term for the 'goodies' and 'baddies' of the films (Rebels vs. Empire, Jedi vs. Sith would have all been acceptable answers).

Moyles then subjected Dave to a Star Wars Quiz, which went painfully wrong for Dave. Test yourself at some of these 'difficult' questions by watching this hilarious video below.

By: Benjamin Hart

Filming for Star Wars: Episode VIII is halfway done, so says writer and director Rian Johnson. In a new post on his Tumblr today, Johnson announced the news, and even better, revealed some brand new set photos from the film. Johnson has made a habit of revealing things on his Tumblr blog, previously posting photos of the Millennium Falcon set and Lupita Nyong'o performing Maz Kanata. This time we get a sneak peak at a crew members cleaning various sets, including a Resistance X-Wing and a First Order work station, both of which are manned by actors in full costume. In addition he wrote:

"I can’t believe we’re halfway through the shoot. (We’re halfway through the shoot!)"

Mads Mikkelsen Confirms Who He's Playing in 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story'

By: Benjamin Hart

The hype surrounding Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has been skyrocketing since the release of that amazing trailer earlier this month. The footage revealed a great deal from the film, but several elements were noticeably absent. One of the biggest missing pieces was the character that Mads Mikkelsen will be playing. We've heard rumors about Mikklesen's role but no confirmations, until today. In a recent interview with Sky News the actor was asked about his upcoming film roles. which includes Rogue One and Marvel's Doctor Strange. While at first he seemed hesitant about divulging anything about Rogue One, he then proceeded to drop a vital piece of information about his character. Of course, some may consider the following to be a spoiler, so be warned; if you don't want to know anything about Rogue One, stop reading now, This is your official SPOILER WARNING.

-
--
---
----
-----
------
-------
--------

Here's what Mikklesen had to say in regards to his feelings when he was first approached about the role:

"A little scared. I wasn't really sure if I was wearing a Stormtrooper outfit or anything like that at that point. I wasn't sure if I could fit into that. I read the script, it was very beautiful. And Felicity(Jones)'s playing this lovely, young, strong woman and I play her father."

And when asked if he could confirm if Darth Vader will appear in Rogue One, he replied:

"Yes I can, but I won't."

You can watch the full interview below. Star Wars talk begins at the 0:30 mark:

This revelation appears to confirm the aforementioned rumors that Mikkelsen and Jones' characters are related. The same rumors also state that his is a conflicted character who is involved with the construction of the Death Star but has a change of heart. We'll have to wait and see if those turn out to be true. Furthermore, it's worth noting that while signing Rogue One autographs at a convention last year, Mikkelsen added the name "Galen" to his signature, fueling speculation that it was his character's name. Is Madds Mikkelsen playing Galen Erso, the father of Jyne Erso? Id say it's all but confirmed now.

By: Dominic Jones

Lego has released three new Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens short films on the Toys 'R Us YouTube channel.  The shorts are titled The Trouble with Rathtars, Hunting for Han and Rey Strikes Back.  The first LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, titled "Poe to the Rescue" was released back in February.

The description for The Trouble with Rathars is,
HAN SOLO and CHEWBACCA have their hands full with a pack of misbehaving Rathtars as they attempt to transport their carnivorous cargo to a rendezvous with Bala Tik the pirate. Things go from bad to worse when First Order TIE Fighters pull the freighter over, forcing Han to think quick and somehow save his skin from the First Order and the rampaging creatures.

Check it out below,

The description for Hunting for Han is,
At the castle of pirate MAZ KANATA (the gathering spot for A-list Scum and Villainy across the galaxy) Maz prepares to trade with scurvy pirate BALA TIK. Bala Tik’s demands that Maz reveal the location of Han Solo, whom Bala Tik accuses of cheating him out of his Rathtars. As it happens, every unsavory character there has a beef with Han, and soon the Han-haters erupt in a brawl that stops when a mysterious OLD COOT sends the angry Scum on a wild goose chase after Han.

Check it out below,

And finally the description for Rey Strikes Back is,
On remote Jakku, REY strives to make ends meet by scavenging ruined Star Destroyers, but the heartless trader UNKAR PLUTT isn’t making it easy for her. Angry at what he perceives as Rey’s ingratitude, Plutt sends henchmen to steal her cherished Tank Speeder. The two not-so-bright baddies meet their match in the determined Rey, who stops at nothing to get her beloved “Bumper” back.

By: Dominic Jones

The popular mobile game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes got a major update this week, adding several new features and game modes.  The two biggest additions to the game are allowing players to form Guilds and go on Raids.  Here's what players can expect from the Galaxy of Heroes update, according to the official EA Star Wars website,

Guilds
  • Guilds are unlocked when players reach level 22. To join a Guild, players can search for a friend, explore recommended Guilds, or create their own.
  • New chat functionality lets players connect and strategize with Guild mates in real time.
  • Guild activities provide ongoing challenges to inspire competition and cooperation with Guild mates for epic gear and rewards.
  • A deep set of Guild management tools allow Guild leaders to customize a logo, make their Guild public or private, promote officers, manage membership, and more.

Raids
  • Players can go deep into The Pit, the first in a series of multi-tier Raids that will grow over time. The Pit challenges Guilds to square off against a ferocious rancor, with multiple difficulty levels and a variety of rewards for players from levels 22 to 80.
  • Raid leaderboards let players keep tabs on who's ahead and who's behind in the race to be the best and wealthiest in the Cantina.

'Star Wars' Themed Pop Up Restaurant Opening in London for Six Days This June

By: Dominic Jones

If Star Wars Episode VIII shooting at Pinewood Studios right now and Star Wars Celebration coming in July weren't already enough to make London the epicenter of Star Wars this year, this announcement just might.  Barrel & Forks announced today that they would be opening a Star Wars themed Pop-up restaurant for eight days in June.  The location of the pop-up restaurant, which is name "The Fork Awakens" (groan), will remain a secret until two days before it opens and prospective diners must sign-up in advance to have a meal there.

"The Fork Awakens" will be open from June 22nd.  The restaurant is described as,

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away…

It is a period of culinary abundance: rebel spies have managed to steal secret recipes to the empire's canteen and Aunt Beru, and take them to the Death star, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet.

Set in Darth Vader’s kingdom, the fork awakens will take Foodtroopers into an immersive journey through time and space, with many familiar encounters and interactive adventures along the way.

Get your Jedi lightsaber drink in the canteen, tuck in some pretty amazing Hutt dogs and special spacefood, meet galactic explorers and interact with the rebels. Beware that the canteen has “strong drinks, hot tunes, and occasional outbreaks of shocking violence.”

Register online, and you will be given a unique id as member of the fork alliance. You will then receive the ID home one month before the event so this will give you access to the galaxy culinary adventure. Address to the venue will be disclosed only 48 hours before the event takes place: you will get an email with directions.

May the food force be with you.

ticket includes: welcome cocktail, 4 course interactive meal, set design and entertainment

They also tweeted the menu,

Casting Director Nina Gold Discusses Finding Daisy Ridley and John Boyega for 'The Force Awakens'

By: Dominic Jones

The two lead actors in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, John Boyega as Finn and Daisy Ridley as Rey, went from being unknowns to international stars over night when they were cast in the film.  The person responsible for finding them and showing them to director JJ Abrams was casting director Nina Gold, whose other credits include Game of Thrones and The Martian.  Gold recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the process of finding Ridley and Boyega.

THR: How did you go about finding them? Were you involved from the start?

GOLD: I had cast John before, when he was 18, in Attack the Block. Finding him then took months and months meeting teenagers, not even necessarily professional actors, but young kids who wanted to act and from all sorts of drama groups and other weird and wonderful ways of finding them. John actually had a job, a part in a play at London’s Tricycle Theater, and I saw him in that and it started from there. Daisy was working in a bar, but also acting. We did see gazillions of people for both roles. But her agent sent her in, and she was really good. She straight away struck a chord and seemed to have the right feel from the first moment, which is unusual.

THR: A major blockbuster having a female and a black lead is something you don’t often see. Was that something that you helped push?

GOLD: It’s unheard of! But they had written a male and female character. Daisy’s was a great female character, which was good. But I think in the casting department, and very much [director] J.J. [Abrams] and [producer] Kathy Kennedy, they were incredibly aware that they didn’t want to make a film without a black character in one of the major parts — that would be a weird way to look at casting a film and a strange approach in 2014. While it was "Let's cast the most amazing, most right person for this part," nobody was saying, "He’s got to be black and she’s got to be white." It was a general awareness that we didn’t want to ignore the reality of the modern world — even though it’s not even the modern world, it’s a galaxy far, far away! But you know what I mean.

Report: 'Making of The Force Awakens' Book Cancelled

By: Dominic Jones

The hotly anticipated book The Making of Star Wars: The Force Awakens has reportedly been cancelled according to Jedi-Biblothek, who noticed that the book's listing in TBM BookManager had recently been updated to say "publication cancelled".  The hardcover book was slated for an October 25th, 2016 release date and was to be written by JW Rinzler and Mark Cotta Vaz.  No reason has been given for the book's cancellation.

The description for the cancelled book was,

The Making of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the ultimate eyewitness account of the film’s complete production history—the fantastic work of the conceptual art team, the commitment to creating a new story in a saga that is loved around the world, J. J. Abrams’s helming of the massive production, and the post-production finesse of Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound—with exclusive reflections from George Lucas, Kathleen Kennedy, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher, as well as Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, and many others.

A must-have for Star Wars fans, this authorized, all-access book—perhaps the most comprehensive documentation of an in-progress production ever written—will be an indispensable work for all movie fans and devotees of popular culture.

This is very disappointing news.  I was really looking forward to this book and what insights it might have had about the making of the film, specifically as it relates to the development of the story.  I was hoping it would answer some of the questions I had about the film that The Art of The Force Awakens book and the Secrets of The Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey documentary on the home media release of the film didn't have time to address.

EXCLUSIVE: Star Wars: Bloodline Info & Excerpt Leaked

By Chris Seekell

Scheduled for release on May 3rd, advanced copies and previews of the latest new canon novel Star Wars: Bloodline by Claudia Gray have been circulating. We have compiled some information about the situations of the main characters in the novel based on various descriptions online. There are some potential mild spoilers, so here is your official spoiler alert.

.......
........
.........
..........

  • Star Wars: Bloodline is set 6 years prior to The Force Awakens
  • The novel will be written entirely from Leia's perspective
  • Han and Leia are still a couple
  • There will be flashbacks to earlier points in Han and Leia's relationship
  • Han owns a shipping company
  • Leia is on the cusp of retiring from her political career and becoming a full time crewmember on the Falcon
  • Ben Solo is 23 years old in the novel
  • Ben is still training with Luke at this time

In addition to this information, here is an excerpt we found posted from the novel:

"Never imagined this, Han had murmured, sitting up in their bed late at night, Ben's tiny head resting in the crook of his father's arm. "Having a kid. Even wanting a kid. But now he's here and -"

"And you're a dad." Leia had leaned closer, unable to resist the chance to tease her husband. "Just think hotshot. Someday you might even be a grandad."

Han's chuckle had warmed her. "Speak for yourself, sweetheart. Me, I ain't ever getting old."

"Princess Leia?"

Leia snapped out of her reverie, back into the here and now.

It looks like you can download a 3 chapter preview of Star Wars: Bloodline here.

The site also contains the following alternate synopsis:

In this thrilling new novel set in the years before the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Leia must grapple with the dangers that threaten to cripple the fledgling democracy—from both within and without. Desperate to take action, senators are calling for the election of a First Senator. It is their hope that this influential post will bring strong leadership to a divided galaxy.

As the daughter of Darth Vader, Leia faces with distrust the prospect of any one person holding such a powerful position—even when supporters suggest Leia herself for the job. But a new enemy may make this path Leia’s only option. For at the edges of the galaxy, a mysterious threat is growing. . . .

This novel looks to bridge a lot of the story gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens! It definitely is worth picking up a copy on May 3rd!

By: Benjamin Hart

Star Wars: The Force Awakens may be officially out of theaters(and in our Blu-ray players), but that's not stopping a steady stream of new merchandise related the film from being released. The latest cool collectible to be revealed is a collection of Disney's Tsum Tsum plush toys based on characters from the film. Rey, Poe, Finn, BB-8, Kylo Ren, Captain Phasma, First Order Stormtrooper, Finn(Stormtrooper) and Rey(with goggles) will all be immortalized in the cuddly form. BB-8 will be available in both big and mediums sizes, while Captain Phasma and Kylo Ren will also be available in medium.

Their name is derived from the Japanese verb tsumu, which means "to stack". Previously other Star Wars characters such as Anakin, Qui-Gon, Boba Fett and many others were featured in the line, but these are the first characters from Episode VII to be included.

These Tsum Tsums will hit Disney Store shelves in Japan on May 4th, which will coincide with Star Wars day festivities there. Disney Stores in Europe and North America will get them on June 26th on the second of two planned #TsumTsumTuesday events.

Han Solo Fan Film Reaches $20,000 Fundraising Goal

By Chris Seekell

An ambitious fan powered project to create a Han Solo short film has just eclipsed its fundraising goal. Han Solo - A Star Wars Fan Film will tell the story of Han Solo going on a daring adventure to rescue Chewbacca. The project is headlined by actor/director Jamie Costa, who will star as the title character. Costa is known online for his viral impressions of icons such as Robin Williams, Johnny Depp, and Harrison Ford. Below is a video of Costa's spot on Han Solo in a mock audition tape.

The fan film has raised over $20,000 in 2 months on IndieGogo, and at the time this article was written, still has several hours before the fundraising closes.

Directed by Kieth Allen, written by Nathaniel Nauert, and also starring Corey Leeper as Chewbacca and Doug Jones as a new character named Gyorsho, the Han Solo film will be shot on location in Utah, and will have a runtime of 8-10 minutes.

Jamie Costa explains that "Unlike most fan films that are on YouTube... it is a full side story[,] not a situational bit or action scenario. But we do have some good action in it."

You can read the full synopsis for the film on its IndieGogo page, as well as see how you can still contribute to the project! You can follow production on the film's official Facebook page and Twitter account.

This is an exciting time for Star Wars, when we have a new theatrical film every year, and many fantastic fan projects in between! We will be watching this project with great interest, and will update you as production starts!

New 'The Force Awakens' iTunes Bonus Feature!

A new bonus feature is now available to fan who buy, or have already bought, Star Wars: The Force Awakens on iTunes.  The new feature, titled "Dressing the Galaxy", features costume designer Michael Kaplan discussing his work designing the costumes for Kylo Ren, Rey, Finn, Han Solo, and General Leia.  The new feature is over six minutes long and also features interviews with director JJ Abrams, actors Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, and Harrison Ford.  Check out a preview of "Dressing the Galaxy" below,

It's really cool to see that Lucasfilm is continuing to put out new content for fans who have already bought the film on home media.  JJ Abrams said recently that he thinks more deleted scenes will be made available digitally, and based on this it looks like iTunes might be a reasonable place to expect to see those.  Regardless, hopefully they continue to release more content like this to supplement the features that were available upon the film's initial release.
