Season two of Star Wars Rebels is slated to premiere on October 14th, and it seems just a few days later the critically acclaimed animated series will be getting it's own magazine! Earlier this week StarWars.com announced that the the Star Wars Rebels Magazine will be debuting on October 20th. Titan Magazines, who have produced Star Wars Insider for many years now, will be publishing this new magazine which will feature episode guides, news, puzzles, games, an original comic and much more. It will include 52 full color pages, some of which you can get a first look at in the special preview that was provided below:

And in case you were wondering, Martin Fisher, who is apparently writing the comics inside the Star Wars Rebels Magazine, has confirmed that the stories will indeed be canon:

Report: Ello Asty 6'' Black Series Action Figure Revealed

By: Benjamin Hart

It seems more often than not we are introduced to new Star Wars characters through toys, and The Force Awakens appears to be continuing that tradition. One character that we have yet to see on screen, but has been appearing in various leaks and toy reveals, is Ello Asty, who is described by StarWars.com as a "skilled if occasionally reckless X-wing starfighter pilot for the Resistance." Some new photos and an unboxing video have surfaced courtesy of The Ultimate Toy Collector, via Jedi Insider, that show a previously unseen 6-inch scale Black Series action figure of Asty. You can see some of the photos above and below, a few of which show him next to the Black Series Poe Dameron figure that's slated to be released in October with Wave two.

It's unclear at this time which wave the Asty figure will be a part of or when it will be officially released, but we we will be sure to bring you that info here on StarWarsUnderworld.com when it appears! In the meantime, be on the lookout for these in your local retailers!

DICE GM Admits They Almost Passed on 'Star Wars Battlefront'

By: Dominic Jones

Star Wars Battlefront Beta goes live in just over a week, meaning fans everywhere will get the chance to try one of the year's most anticipated games.  However, the game almost didn't happen (or would have shaped up significantly differently).  Patrick Bach, the GM of the studio making the game DICE, revealed in a recent interview with the Official Xbox Magazine that the studio almost passed on Battlefront.  Bach cited timing conflicts as the reason for their hesitation, however they ultimately decided this was just too good an opportunity to pass up.

According to Bach,
“Disney came to EA looking for a partner to make games and suggested, ‘Maybe DICE should make a Battlefront game.’ On our side, we had this opportunity, but were fully booked with other work and thought, ‘Argh, we can’t do that!’ But then the heart kicks in, says ‘we will figure it out,’ and we figured it out. Because you can’t say no to a project like that.

You piece it together based on competence, passion, availability – although that’s easier to fix. You need the right people in the right place to do the right ‘thing’. Even though you don’t know what that is yet, you still have an idea of the concept. From that you say, ‘okay, we need this person or that person.’ Then, of course, you have to hire a lot of people; you swap people around. Some people just won’t be interested; other people have been building Battlefield games for ten years and want to try something else. And other people say, ‘I would love to work on Star Wars, but… I don’t work for [DICE].’ So it’s a mix of everything, a very organic process.”

I think most fans are glad that DICE ultimately "made it work" and were able to design the game.  The Battlefront Beta will be available from October 8th-12th.  The full game hits shelves November 17th.

Report: Tim Rose Confirms His Involvement In 'The Force Awakens'

By: Benjamin Hart

The Force Awakens will see the return of many old favorites to the Star Wars saga, including Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as Leia and Harrison Ford as Han Solo. Not only them, it also appears that our favorite Mon Calamari military leader will be making an appearance in the film as well. Our friends at Making Star Wars pointed out an interview The Australian did with legendary puppeteer Tim Rose where he confirmed his role in the film and the character he will be portraying...

SPOILER ALERT!

----
-----

Admiral Ackbar!

First off, Rose commented on the intense secrecy surrounding The Force Awakens:

"I'm very frustrated by that. Out of the need to be secret, we're not actually able to get everything we need to do our jobs as well as we could... And as someone who has been doing it for 35 years, I find it very frustrating."

And on reprising Ackbar he said:

"I'd like to think I gave Ackbar something special which you can tell. I think you can. I can tell when I see my friends who do specialised and full body suit work no matter what character they go into; I can tell you exactly who it is because I know their movements so well,"

And about the film as a whole he added:

"What I can say about the new movie is that if you were a fan of the original three, you're going to absolutely love this one to bits... You can expect a smorgasbord of people you love."

Previously we had heard rumors about Ackbar's return and even saw a photo of a Mon Calamari we presumed was Ackbar. The fact that Tim Rose canceled some convention appearances last year also added legitimacy to the speculation. It's incredibly exciting finally have a confirmation that he will most definitely be back as Ackbar in The Force Awakens. Considering Ackbar's continued presense in the Star Wars Galaxy following Return Of The Jedi, such as the book Aftermath, it will be very interesting to see what role he will have in The Force Awakens as, presumably, a leader of the Resistance.

Rumor: Minor Details About Rey's Backstory in 'The Force Awakens'

By: Dominic Jones

With just 80 days left until Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens hits theaters, mystery and intrigue continue to surround the character of Rey (played by Daisy Ridley in the film).  Ever since Ridley appeared seated between Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher in the very first cast photo, rumors and speculation about who she may be related to have run rampant.  Our friends over at MakingStarWars.net have heard some interesting information about her backstory.  This information is vague at best, and doesn't confirm any of the rumors or speculation about her lineage, but is still interesting.  As usual, there is a chance this may not be true so if you don't want to know anything about The Force Awakens stop reading now.  This is your SPOILER ALERT!

-------

According to MSW,
  • “Rey” is a pseudonym used by the hero in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
  • “Rey” was dropped off on Jakku by her parents.
  • “Rey” doesn’t leave Jakku because she’s waiting for her parents to return. Should she leave, they may never find her.
  • Her life on Jakku, living inside an AT-AT-turned-home makes Luke’s life on Tatooine look suburban and luxurious.
As you can see this doesn't confirm any of the rumors about her parentage and could work with either her being related to a legacy character (or two) or her being a completely new character.  As for Rey being a pseudonym, this has been speculated and rumor a lot in the past, with many pointing to the name Kira being her real name (especially after it was spotted on set last year).  It would be an interesting twist (and one that feels very Star Wars to me) if  Han and Leia are Rey's parents and she doesn't want to leave Jakku because she fears her parents won't be able to find her parents are, because almost immediately after leaving Jakku she meets Han, and Leia not too long after that.
As always, this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.

Rumor: New 'The Force Awakens' Trailer Coming October 16th

By: Dominic Jones

With Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens now just 80 days away, the one question all fans are asking is when will we see the third (and final?) trailer for the new film?  Our friends over at Furious Fanboys may have the answer.  They're reporting that some movie theaters are being told to reserve spots for new items, such as posters, starting October 16th.  According to Furious Fanboys,

"When a studio releases a teaser trailer, like the one that came out in April, they give the trailer to theaters along with a poster to display. That’s when the teaser one-sheet hit theaters. While some don’t consider it to be a real poster, the logo-only one-sheet was the first teaser poster for The Force Awakens.

If these theaters are receiving promotional items such as posters, or even bigger things like a standee, around the 16th of October that means they also likely will have a trailer to show as well."

They also speculate that the trailer could very well be released online on the 15th of October, which is a Thursday (which is when Lucasfilm typically makes their big reveals) and then in theaters on the 16th itself.

The only indication Lucasfilm has given about when a new trailer might hit is, as they repeated at conventions throughout the summer, that it would hit in "the fall."  Rumors are also swirling that tickets for the film will go on sale on October 19th and that a new trailer would be released to coincide with that.  A trailer being released on October 15th/16th seems to fit both the official and rumored criteria.

As always this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.

'Star Wars' Design Director at Hasbro Talks 'The Force Awakens' Toys

By: Dominic Jones

"Force Friday" may be in the rear view mirror now, but the toys from Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens are just beginning.  With everyone thinking about Star Wars toys again, Fast Co Design caught up with Steve Evans, the Star Wars design director at Hasbro to talk about the future of the Star Wars line.

On how they go about choosing the toys to release (and avoiding spoilers in doing so) Evans revealed that the toys released thus far only represent the first third of the film.  He added,
"Star Wars is such a great movie, that the director and Lucasfilm, quite rightly so, want to keep the surprises for the fans controlled.  It’s like any great marketing campaign. You release when it's right for the story. And in the case of Star Wars that story is not just the movie—that story is the whole brand and the whole way it's portrayed and played out to the audiences as well.

As we lead up to December 18, there's a certain amount that gets released.  There are certain surprises from our product line that no one knows about, that we'll release leading up to the movie, at the movie, and beyond the movie."

Evans also discussed the importance of Rey and shifting the Star Wars toy line from being "for boys" to "for everyone" saying,
"I'm actually very, very fond of the three-and-three-quarter inch Rey figure...It’s because of what it stands for.  Just because of the way it's embracing girls into the brand more. I have a son and two twin daughters and my girls are infatuated with Rey. They think she's brilliant."

"We are designing them for ‘fans’. That's all we like to say.  A fan can be 4, can be 44, or can be 94. Can be male or female. I’m seeing grandparents, parents, kids, kids and friends, aunties, uncles, everything. Everybody is getting engaged with Star Wars because it's transgenerational. I think the movie that's coming out epitomizes that because it’s the classic characters and the new characters. We know that we provide toys, playsets, and tools for engagement for families, young kids, middle aged men and women. Everybody. That's what I think makes it so great. It's for everybody. Star Wars is for everyone."

And, on getting to visit The Force Awakens set, Evans said,
"It was like a childhood dream  It was fantastic seeing all the things we saw, working with Lucasfilm and being privy to that information to allow us to go back with enough to be able to design products and toys that we know will resonate with kids and fans of all ages."

Head over to Fast Co Design to read the entire interview with Evans for more on the future of the Star Wars line at Hasbro and a behind the scenes look at what goes into creating an action figure.

Domhnall Gleeson Talks General Hux In 'The Force Awakens'

By: Benjamin Hart

Through various rumors and reports we have learned a great deal about The Force Awakens, but many of the new characters that are set to be introduced are still shrouded in secrecy. One of those characters is General Hux, played by Domhnall Gleeson, whom we know is one of the leaders of the First Order, and that's about it. Recently Gleeson spoke with Total Film magazine where he talked about his character and why he was drawn to the character. Games Radar reports:

"Yeah, I mean you look at him and you realise he’s not a good guy! He’s got an English accent so he can’t be good.” He said. Gleeson went on to add that Abrams described Hux as “merciless”, before getting worried he was giving too much away, “Is that what he said?”.

Gleeson also reportedly said that, aside from the obvious, what drew him to the role was his desire to "play something different". He also discussed the breathtaking experience of stepping on set:

"That’s one of those ‘pinch me’ moments. I experienced it in a major way on Harry Potter and it’s a similar thing with Star Wars, except you look down and you’re in the gear and you have stuff to say and you’re like, ‘Holy God.’ And yes, it’s very difficult to remain cool about stuff like that. There’s no two ways about it, it’s totally brilliant."

Of course you can read the full interview by picking up the latest issue of Total Film magazine!

Sarah Michelle Gellar to Attend 'Star Wars Rebels' Panel at NYCC

By: Dominic Jones

Not too long after season one wrapped up, it was announced that Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) would be lending her voice to a character in season two of Star Wars Rebels.  Since then details about her role have been scarce (her husband Freddie Prinze Jr, who plays Kanan on the series, joked at Celebration that she would be playing a Wookiee), but it seems now we may get an actual answer at New York Comic Con.  Gellar tweeted out today that she would be taking part in the Star Wars Rebels season two preview panel taking place on Thursday October 8th at 1:30pm EST on the Empire Stage at NYCC.
Hopefully we'll learn some actual details about her role in the upcoming season during the panel.  There has been speculation that she will be playing the new female Inquisitor seen in the previews.

In addition to the panel, there will also be a screening of the first two episodes of Season two of Rebels that evening at 5:30pm, also at the Empire Stage.

  • Star Tours—The Adventures Continue: This popular attraction will feature a new scene inspired by the upcoming film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

'Star Wars: Battlefront' Beta to Launch October 8th

By: Dominic Jones

Lucasfilm and Electronic Arts have announced that the Beta for the hotly anticipated video game Star Wars Battlefront will be available on October 8th!  The Beta will be available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC via Origin and will feature three modes, Walker Assault on Hoth, Drop Zone on Sullust, and Survival Mission on Tatooine.

  • Walker Assault on Hoth: Fight in epic 40-player battles as a Rebel to destroy the Empire’s onslaught of AT-ATs by calling in Y-wing bombers. Or, side with the Empire and protect your walkers while utilizing their mighty weaponry to crush the Rebel objective.
  • Drop Zone on Sullust: Escape pods are crashing down and you and your team must fight to control them. With its frantic 8v8 matches, Drop Zone is sure to put your combat and strategy skills to the test.
  • Survival Mission on Tatooine: Play alone offline or with a friend via co-op or split-screen as you battle to hold off waves of Imperial forces including AT-STs, TIE fighters, elite stormtroopers and more.

The Beta will be available from October 8th-12th.  Fans who have attended major conventions this summer may have got the chance to play the Walker Assault mode and Survival Mission on Tatooine mode already, so it's nice to see there will be something new for everyone.  I played both modes (at San Diego Comic Con and Fan Expo Canada) and I think gamers and Star Wars fans alike will have lots of fun with this game.  I'm really looking forward to seeing all the work that went into developing the canon look of Sullust done by the DICE team.

The full Star Wars Battlefront game hits shelves on November 17th.

Rumor: Max von Sydow's Character Name in 'The Force Awakens' Revealed

By: Dominic Jones

One cast we have heard nothing about, officially, in the marketing for Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens is Max von Sydow.  Sydow was part of the original cast announcement and hasn't been mentioned since.  Now, his character's name in the film may have been revealed.  Our friends over at MakingStarWars.net are hearing that Sydow's character is named Lor San Tekka.

I have to say, I do like this name.  It has a very Star Wars-y.  From the looks of it, it doesn't seem that Sydow is going to have a huge role in The Force Awakens.  It is odd that we have seen/heard so little about the role a legendary actor like Sydow is playing.  If you're interested in spoilers and want to know what Sydow's role is rumored to be, keep reading.  If you don't like spoilers, stop reading now.  This is your SPOILER ALERT!

Up until now, we had been referring to Sydow's role by its rumored codename, "The Vicar."  The Vicar, aka Lor San Tekka, is believed to be the one on Jakku who gets Luke Skywalker's lightsaber after it falls from space.  He then calls Poe Dameron and the resistance to come pick it up.  Unfortunately the First Order also arrives on Jakku, looking for the lightsaber.  Lor San Tekka gives the lightsaber to Poe before he is confronted and ultimately killed by Kylo Ren.  This all happens within the first fifteen minutes of the film.

Anthony Ingruber Nearly Voiced Han Solo In 'Star Wars Rebels'

By: Benjamin Hart

Who can play Han Solo?

That's a question many Star Wars fans have pondered recently, especially since the announcement of the "Hanthology" film earlier this year. Although many would argue that Harrison Ford is the one and only actor who can portray the beloved scoundrel, I think most agree that at least one rising star may have what it takes play Han.

Anthony Ingruber, who made a name for himself way back in 2008 when he posted video of himself(above) on YouTube doing an excellent impression of Harrison Ford as Han Solo. The video eventually led to Ingruber being cast in the film Age Of Adaline where he portrayed a younger version of Harrison Ford's character, William Jones. Subsequently Lucasfilm announced that the second Star Wars spin-off/Anthology film(Slated for release on May 25, 2018) would focus on a young Han Solo, and of course, fans have been insisting that Ingruber should be cast in the lead role ever since. While all of that still up in the air, it seems Ingruber himself just revealed that he, in fact, almost played Han not that long ago, albeit in animated form.

Today the folks at Star Wars 7 News shared a great interview with Ingruber where he discussed his early inspirations and his time working on Age Of Adeline. But by far the most intriguing aspect of the interview was when he was asked if he had been approached by Lucasfilm to work on any Star Wars projects. His answer was very interesting:

"I was actually approached to voice in Star Wars Rebels a few years ago, but there was some change in character/plot lines so sadly it fell through. I’m hoping I get the chance to portray Han in the upcoming spin off film and am working hard to try to make that happen."

They also inquired about any other roles he might be taken on in the near future, to which he replied:

"Unfortunately, I can’t share anything until it is announced! Hopefully soon though!"

Now this is far from a confirmation that Anthony Ingruber is playing Han Solo in the second Anthology film, but it does prove that he has been in contact with Lucasfilm and they, at least at one time, considered him for the role. Although a voice over role is much different than onscreen acting, I think it's a safe bet that Ingruber could handle both. At the very least it sounds like he will be auditioning along with everyone else when the time comes, and I think he'll have a good chance at nabbing the role.

Be sure to read the full interview at StarWars7News.com!

Force Friday saw the reveal of many different toys from Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, but curiously absent were Hasbro's Black Series action figures in the classic 3.75-inch size. Although the 6-inch line has been pleasing collectors so far, it now looks like Hasbro is finally coming through with the much wanted smaller figures. Yakface is reporting that Walmart.com has posted listings for Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron figures. A Return Of The Jedi Endor Han Solo figure is also included in the group These figures will reportedly be Walmart exclusives when they are released, although there is no word yet on when they might show up on shelves. You can see all the images both packaged and loose, below:

In addition, Jedi Temple Archives got their hands on packaged photos of the Kylo Ren and First Order Stormtrooper 3.75-inch figures that will also be in this new line. The Star Wars The Black Series Facebook page give us a better look at the figures with some high quality images of the pair. You can check them out below:

Keep an eye out in your local Walmarts. I would expect to start seeing these on the pegs very soon!
